Trish Stratus: Hall of Fame 2013 Inductee -- WTF?

I bet that got your attention, eh boys?
Okay, before I get a shitstorm on my wall and on the comments about Miss Stratus, hear me out first. I'm already getting enough heat on my Facebook account about speaking negatively about Trish as it is. She's a 7 time Women's Champion and a definitive cornerstone to the Divas' in the Attitude Era and continues to inspire women in the sport today. I get that. I REALLY do. I'm not discrediting her career nor her achievements in this business in the slightest, but my biggest issue with her being inducted now of all periods.

I'm not allowing my personal distaste for her cloud my judgment on this matter either. This is me just openly voicing my opinion about what's more fair.

"But Z, she's been gone for about 10 years..." Wrong. Do your research, people. Her retirement match was Unforgiven 2006, so that was roughly 7 years ago. Mick Foley, who is being inducted this year as well, has formally retired since 2001, but we know has had occasional appearances in WWE, working as a commissioner, doing some time as a color commentator, briefly feuding with Edge, Randy Orton & Ric Flair and putting them over when they needed the boost in their careers, managing Melina, and ultimately having a final championship run in TNA Wrestling for a brief period before finally returning back to WWE. That's why I don't have a problem with his Legend status.

Instead, Trish Stratus' pre-mature induction seems like a knee-jerk reaction to the bad press that Sunny (Tammy Lynn Sytch) has been bringing towards WWE after her Hall of Fame induction last year. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Sunny has been in rehab and has been arrested at least 3-5 times since her induction last year? Not to mention that she found belittling a fan over Twitter using homophobic remarks. With Trish Stratus' induction, the focus is lifted off of Sunny and her bad press as let's face it - to the eyes of many jaded women's wrestling fans, Trish Stratus does no wrong. She's the perfect living Diva Legend to hold as a testament to their company's good image. I can respect that WWE wants to protect their company's image, but let's face it folks, their reputation died along with the Attitude Era and the XFL.

I personally thought that they would hold off Trish Stratus' induction until WrestleMania returns to Canada (That's been rumored for a while now...) for an event and would allow some of the women who paved the way for Trish Stratus and Lita's careers being put on the map to be inducted first.

A few examples:

  • Luna Vachon (died on August 27, 2010) - Before Lita, she (along with Sherri Martel) were the first of few women who paved the way for breaking the mold not being the traditional cookie cutter woman in wrestling.
  • Alundra Blayze/Madusa - She's still alive, currently working the Monster Truck Show circuit as an active competitor. Most people will remember her negativity for trashing the WWF Women's Championship to jump ship to WCW during the Monday Night Wars, but that does not discredit her achievements as performer in this sport.
  • Sable - Yeah, I went there. Sure, she has all of this heat with the McMahons and what not, but you can't discredit her achievements for being the woman (along with Sunny at the time) who pulled the Women's Division out of the gutter after Alundra Blayze dropped the title into the trash. We would not have Trish Stratus at all if Vince McMahon didn't see the moneymaking success of Sable first.
  • Jacqueline - The only African-American women's champion in history and she was the only woman in WWE to hold the Cruiserweight Championship before it was retired.
  • Ivory - Much like Jacqueline, Ivory has done it all - interviewer, multiple time Women's Champion, and even serving as co-host/commentator on various WWE programs. She was an excellent worker, great on the microphone, and one of the main Divas who kept the scene interesting after Sable's departure. At least she was recently inducted into WSU's Hall of Fame.
  • Victoria/Tara - We know she won't get a Hall of Fame induction as long as she works for Dixie Carter in TNA, but Victoria has pushed several Divas to their limit and help mold them into the champions they are today. Trish Stratus owes the success of her early career to both Jazz and Victoria for them forcing her to her limit and beyond to make viewers believe that she deserved to be Women's Champion.
All I ask is that the many marks of Trish Stratus take a moment and think about this. The entire WWE Universe knows that Trish Stratus is great and a Legend in the eyes of so many women in mainstream wrestling, but would it kill you guys to let her induction be held off for a few more years?

My Dream Card for WrestleMania 29 -- Since We KNOW This Isn't Going To Happen

Instead of bitching and complaining about how much I can stand what has transpired at Royal Rumble this past Sunday, I'm just going to cool my jets, not watch WWE programming this week and dream of what "could have been."

Also, on a side note, fuck Trish Stratus being in the Hall of Fame this year...

No, Z, don't let your anger get the best of you...

Okay, my dream card for WrestleMania 29... Keep in mind this is my version and let's just pretend that Royal Rumble didn't happen the way it did.

MY Dream Road to WrestleMania 29

Royal Rumble Results:

Antonio Cesaro def. The Miz to retain the United States Championship

The Big Show def. Alberto Del Rio to become new World Heavyweight Champion

Team Hell No! def. Rhodes Scholars to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship

Ryback wins the Royal Rumble

Note: The Shield lays out both Cena, Sheamus, and Ryback during the final four, opting to give Dolph Ziggler the win.

CM Punk def. The Rock to retain the WWE Championship.

Note: The Shield comes out to interfere but were not seen due to the lights going out. Regardless, Vince McMahon comes out to throw the match out the window but Brock Lesnar F5's the WWE Chairman before he finishes his sentence.

Elimination Chamber Results:

Chris Jericho & Bo Dallas def. US Champion Antonio Cesaro & Intercontinenal Champion Wade Barrett

Notes: This Tag Match is designed to give both challengers exposure and momentum before WM, thus proving that they are ready to take the gold from the champs.

Kaitlyn def. Tamina

Notes: AJ Lee has Big E and Tamina destroy Kaitlyn afterwards and she skips away with Divas title.

The Big Show def. Alberto Del Rio, Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton, and Sheamus to retain the World Heavyweight Championship

Notes: Everyone looks strong throughout this one, but The Big Show comes out on top.

The Rock def. CM Punk, John Cena, Chris Jericho, and Brock Lesnar to retain the WWE Championship

Notes: Triple H screws Lesnar out of winning by attacking him with a sledgehammer and dealing a Pedigree early on. It looks like Punk is about to retain when the lights go out and everyone thinks its The Shield as usual, but the lights come back on with all of them laid out with Punk in the middle of the ring with The Undertaker. He delivers the Last Ride (or Tombstone Piledriver) and promptly disappears, leaving the win over to The Rock.

WrestleMania 29 Dream Match Card:

CM Punk vs. The Undertaker - Respect vs. The Streak

Build-up: Taker returns and explains his reasoning behind formally "dethroning" Punk, by saying that the title belongs with the last of the dying Attitude Era breed like himself, The Rock, and Triple H as there is a lack of respect among the next generation of so-called wrestlers. CM Punk counters saying that his generation is dead and needs to become humble to his greatness and respect the new era that he is single-handedly is ushering in.

After this match, win/lose/draw is where The Undertaker announces his retirement.

Divas Championship - Kaitlyn (C) vs. AJ Lee

Build-up: The weeks after Elimination Chamber, AJ confesses that she was sick of seeing Kaitlyn get the opportunities that were never presented to her. Instead, she was handed the GM role and fired before she got what she really wanted - the Divas Championship. Kaitlyn and AJ's "friendship" is completely out of the window as this turns into a modern day Trish vs. Lita feud. Hell, even to add more salt in the wounds for Diva fans, Trish and Lita will be in each respective Divas' corner...

United States Championship - Antonio Cesaro (C) vs. Chris Jericho - Ironman Match

Build-up: Jericho and Cesaro have a best of 5 series leading up to WrestleMania with both men looking strong in the series. They both agree that the only way to settle this is do it like Bret Hart and HBK did many years ago and do it in an Ironman match. Jericho is still playing off his "I haven't lost my touch" gimmick while Cesaro is still the best thing America has going.

Intercontinental Championship - Wade Barrett (C) vs. Bo Dallas

Build-up: This is make-it or break-it time for both Bo Dallas and Wade Barrett, as it's anyone's ball game on the biggest stage of them all to get over at WrestleMania. I would build this like The Undertaker vs. Maven feud from back in 2002-2003, with Bo working for the little guys on NXT and hoping they get a bigger platform in WWE to shine while Wade only wishes to continue his dominance as IC champ.

Tag Team Turmoil - Team Hell No! vs. Rhodes Scholars vs. Primetime Players vs. Epico & Primo (w/ Rosa Mendes)

Build-up: Hell No! shows signs of their team breaking up prior to WM and finally come to boil as they have to face 3 other teams at WrestleMania. Perfect ending here would be to have Kane turn on Bryan, yet they still have the titles. Knowing WWE that would lead to some more comedy gold segments over the summer.

Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar II

Build-up: What's there to build up? Lesnar hurt his father-in-law and HHH wants revenge from the first encounter. LOL, there ya go.

Fatal 4 Way: Dolph Ziggler vs. Randy Orton vs. Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio

Build-up: This one should be the show opener to get it out of the way. For people to forget about Ziggler for the next event...

World Heavyweight Championship Match - The Big Show (C) vs. Ryback

Build-up: Do this one like Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant. For the weeks prior to WM, have Ryback lifting guys of various weight classes as 'training' to deliver the Shellshock on The Big Show. For comedy purposes, they can have JBL and Ron Simmons holding bets on the matter backstage and at ringside.

After Ryback wins the title, cue Dolph Ziggler to cash in MITB. This gives both DZ and Ryback a platform to work over the summer.

So Much for Once In A Lifetime... WWE Championship Match - The Rock (C) vs. John Cena

Build-Up: John Cena has to go heel this time, regress back to the Doctor of Thugnomnics to counter Mr. Hollywood.

Yeah, yeah. I know this WILL NOT happen, but a man can dream dammit.

Chronicles of a Fed-Head: The Rise & Fall of ZXWWF Part One -- SACRIFICE

I have been contemplating on how to do this for several months now and finally I have come to the conclusion that I will go ahead and shine light on this story. I have ran e-feds and been involved on the administrative level of e-feds for over seven years now. I have made a lot of enemies in the e-fed community over the years, but at the same time I have made even more friends - including those I consider like family - over the years.

Over the years, some of my fellow fed-heads (my term for the head cheese of an e-federation) constantly ask me for advice and feedback on what to do right and avoid doing wrong, I figured the best way is to tell the tale of how my first e-federation blossomed into success and how it spiraled out of control until its untimely demise.

I think other fed-heads would benefit to learn from my mistakes and failures, while others would be thoroughly entertained by the tale I have to tell. Unlike several former individuals from my federation, I have complete access to an archive of conversation logs, private messages, and the entirety of my first federations' results archive. I will tell this tale from start to finish - with many jokes and serious moments to be had - while staying true to what happened from my role as the owner of ZXWWF.

To my former colleagues and friends who have been with me for this journey, this is MY story. Not the "he said, she said" versions that have sprung up after the e-federation died out, but what happened through MY eyes. If you have a problem with that, get the fuck out of here now.

CHAPTER ONE -- SACRIFICE

Thorough this series, I'm going to mention several rules and guidelines I recommend any aspiring fed-head to take heed and hold to the heart.

Lesson 1: To be a successful fed-head, you will have to sacrifice a lot to reap in the benefits to your federation in the long haul. That includes your free time, your sanity, your personal life, and possibly (and more unlikely) a lot of people who tend to call themselves your friends.

Contrary to popular belief, when I started my first e-fed I had no idea what I was doing. The concept dawned on me when my best friend who I have jokingly created several Original CAWs with on the WWE Smackdown series throughout the years was going into the military and he would miss out on the comedic, yet action-packed adventures of our wrestling talents. At the time, WWE was quickly losing our interest while TNA Wrestling was doing little to our morale as well. While I began college, I pondered on a possible alternative on how we could collectively continue our exploits.

Enter ZXWWF.
The first ever ZXWWF logo.
From left to right: T-Bone (my best bud IRL and IC),
ZX (me), John Cena, and April Hunter.

Even to this day, people still ask me what does that stand for. Oddly enough, it doesn't stand for anything. It's a joke in the company name as I honestly didn't take it seriously - much like our original characters and their gimmicks until much later down the road. ZXWWF simply means "ZX's WWF" (ZX being my online alias for a while now) as I figured I could put on a better show than Vince McMahon and his chimps on Creative Control could. I just figured we had a good thing going so why not share it online with the rest of the world after discovering the delightful website known as Caws.ws.

What is Caws.ws? Back in the day, Caws.ws was filled to capacity with real wrestler, non-wrestler, and original formulas for CAW modes for several wrestling titles, but nowadays you see much less formulas being posted, thanks to the novelty and convenience of the addition of Community Creations in the newer WWE titles. I was blown away at the sheer amount of original characters and wondered at the possibilities of how their creations would fare and interact with my own. Soon I found myself printing out CAW formulas at my office job at the time between workloads, then racing to add these lovely individuals to wage war with my own creations. Then it hit me - if I'm so anxious to see my creations go against someone else's, then wouldn't the original creators be just as pumped as I am? That's when the wheels started turning as I made a mediocre (read: shitty) free site off Tripod (known as Tripod/Lycos now), but I didn't launch an official forum for the federation until September 6, 2006. I know, I know. Big mistake there. Of course, that would be the first of many rookie moves I made first starting out.

Truth be told, no matter how committed I am to my nerdy habits, I'm not going to buy a web domain unless I expected to make money off that said website.

So in January of 2006, ZXWWF officially launched. I didn't have any members and I didn't have much of an audience other than my buddy in the military who I originally cooked up this idea for - and he had little internet access as it is.

Here's where your sacrifices begin to take place, folks. If you have any sense of dignity you flush that down the toilet and begin whoring out news and advertisements for your e-federation on every wrestling-related forum you can find. Having a listing on RoughKut does wonders - even more if they manage to write up a good review or response about your e-federation. Take notes from their several topics on writing roleplays, recruiting members, and managing your federation. There is a reason why those guys are respected as the #1 eWrestling resource on the Internet. They know their shit. Everything that I have managed to do right in my tenure as a fed-head I owe to those guys. A lot of my free time was spent reading their articles on do's and don'ts of fedding.

When you don't have any real members to your federation, that's where the fun part comes in. Like real wrestling, the show must go on no matter if you have one guy on the roster or a hundred. As the guy in charge, it is your responsibility that the show goes on. The most common way to accomplish this is to play multiple characters. In starting out, this is highly acceptable but over the years, I have seen fed-heads go overboard with this technique to garner interest and make themselves look good. Truth be told, my characters have garnered a lot of success in my own federations as well as others, so I see no reason to sacrifice them as lambs to make the next up and coming Superstars and Divas look stronger in the competition, especially when their handlers put in the hard work and creativity to boot.

I think this is perfect opportunity to explore Lesson 2 in this chapter.

Lesson 2: You are the owner of a fictional, fantasy wrestling league. You are NOT Vince Kennedy McMahon

I have heard horror story after horror story about this over the years. Fed-heads get that ego that they are God's Gift to Wrestling in this role and everyone beneath them are insects. As the owner, I'm not suggesting that you be a jackass, nor am I suggesting that you try to be the most naive person known to man. When you are in this role, everyone will try to kiss your ass and attempt to be your best friend -- all in the hope that this will help them reap the benefits of success in your federation.

I let people know straight up - I am their boss first in the federation and your friend second. If you don't establish this clarity in your relationships with the members of your federation first, you will have a slew of problems much later down the road.

There are going to be MANY people that will test your patience and endurance. Then others whose egos you are going to have to check at the door. I can guarantee that you will have that one guy who thinks he is the king of his world in some other dinky federation or on his own private universe on a particular WWE video game. Kindly let him know that he has to climb the ladder just like everyone else to the top, otherwise make him humble anyway you see fit - even if that means by force.

In the beginning, I wasn't that smart and wise. Fast forward to a few months later in ZXWWF's first year. I managed to keep things going short and simple in ZXWWF, garnering a bit of interest from members on Caws.ws after launching my concept idea of doing a Diva Search on July 7, 2006 to draw in more members. Caws.ws members that thread is still here. Shouts to LuckySeven and jhace2k as those guys were awesome in helping me recruit Divas for this contest.

This is the fun part of this tale as the irony of the matter is this -- majority of the Divas that were signed after the contest ended lost the contest overall, but showed so much promise from their interest in the federation. Yes, that means the lovely ladies that have known in federations for a LONG time, known widely as Kirsten, Raven, Tina Angel, "The Kat" Carrie Marie, and Amanda Cortez pretty much got their start here in ZXWWF after this initial Diva Search.

Kudos to several CAW makers who allowed me to use their creations in my federation, including the creators of Scorpion (SDL), John Moyer, Shadowstarr, Shia Storm, "Bonecrusher" Enrique, XtremeTony, "Sexy" Lexi Gates (Opagogo -- whatever happened to that guy??), Jesse Aguilera, CJ Hawk, Delta Madison (Shine It On Me -- more on her in a future chapter), Lizzy Winters, Spyder, and so many more that I can't remember but I respect your contributions to my fed in its infancy.

By the end of 2006, I had a lot fresh faces in the federation, including Shawn Damian and Sheena Marie on the roster as well. I have experienced some of the drama these two individuals bring to e-federations first-hand, but we'll get to that in due time. For the most part, things were looking up as I considered my first e-fed to be blossoming into a success in my naive record books at the time. Of course, I was wrong as things were about to go downhill.

Lesson 3: The Invasion angle is as bad as it was in reality in e-federations.

When first starting an e-federation, the first idea that crosses through a lot of fed-heads' minds is the Invasion angle. Don't get me wrong, it could work with the right amount of preparation and dedicated players, but with two budding feds that are both equally unknown among the eWrestling world, it's going to tank.

Enter MHWF, a fictional company made up by newcomer Damian Wilson. We talked about it via IM for weeks and decided that our champions and mid-carders would feud with his best at the upcoming event to feature both of our e-feds. On a side note, I STILL don't know what MHWF stood for. If any of my lovely readers know, please enlighten me.

The PPV rolls around with little to no build-ups to the so-called draws to the show. Would you believe that this was the only time that eWrestling icon, Sylas "The Prodigy" Styles appeared in ZXWWF for this event? I'm sure if I brought up this to his handler he would think I'm nuts. Contrary to popular belief, DW was just 'borrowing' original characters and real wrestlers from around Caws.ws and didn't really have a federation of his own. All of it was in his imagination. So yeah, this event tanked as a result. The actual handlers weren't behind the 'invading' characters so the whole concept just fell flat. I ended up having ZXWWF give them legit matches out of respect to their handlers as I wouldn't expect anything else for my originals being used without my consent, save for the main event where DW's own defected against their own and gave ZXWWF the win as a few of them joined the company. Lame, I know. At least that nightmare was over. Now I know how Vince and the WCW guys felt after the real Invasion angle... ugh.

Lesson 4: Beware of egos. They are EVER present in e-federations. They will strike when you least expect it.

Enter The Rebels -- Jack "The Criminal" Crazy and his girlfriend "The Icon" Litablaze.

I still consider this to be my greatest mistake out of my entire tenure of e-fedding. Keep in mind that this isn't my ONLY mistake. Like most members I recruited to my e-fed, I met them through Caws.ws and thought their CAWs had a really unique look and wanted to do a program with them. Here's where the trouble came in -- I literally agreed to job my characters at the time to them upon debut at the next show and win the two most prestigious championships at the same time. Pretty much it was like Gail Kim walking into WWE upon her debut and winning the Women's Championship without anyone knowing who the HELL she was supposed to be. Or even worse, think of her recent return to TNA, where she won both the TNA Knockouts and Knockouts Tag Team Championships in less than 24 hours.

Looking back, this was my worst mistake on a lot of reasons. First of all, my e-fed was not a traditional fed, it featured a mixture of both real wrestlers and original characters. To have a literally unknown and underdeveloped character come in and lay waste to the champions makes the entire company looks bad as a result. It brings up the question of why was this individual even champion in the first place and how come no one else could topple this loser before these unknowns came in? Secondly, the Rebels were not original or 'new' at all. They were just that 'flavor of the month' in that era of wrestling that seemed to be over. Jack Crazy was unique on his own right, but Litablaze was as original as every other wannabe Team Xtreme (Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Lita) clone out there in the e-fed world today. Sadly, they were a joint deal so I folded to their demands.

Naive as I was at the time, I was thinking like a McMahon, "I don't care that my CAWs lose as long as it's good TV, right?" Boy, was I wrong there. Little did I know was that I single-handed created one of the biggest ego-maniacs my federation has ever seen. Well, up to this moment anyway. Soon, my members grew to resent my mistake just as much as I did as Litablaze's ego knew no limits. I'll never know to this day, but it seemed like the so-called couple were handled by the same person, as Litablaze would do all of the talking and networking while Jack Crazy would sit back and rep in the rewards. It was obvious that my members were getting fed up with their egos as much as I was. To my amusement, I literally got the hint that I needed to do something about her when they actually shot and stabbed the bitch on the roleplay boards. Seriously, they went THAT far on hating her guts. Looking back, I think that was hilarious still even to this day.

Eventually, the Rebels' reign of terror ended at the end of that season where my CAWs dethroned them from their pedestals. Many ZXWWF alumni can thank Scary (now Sensational) Mary for that honor of slaying the savage beast. I quickly kicked them out of my federation shortly afterwards.

Lesson 5: Make the rules and conditions of your roleplay boards apparent as soon as you open your e-fed. Otherwise, your e-fed quickly goes from wrestling to MTV's Real World to late night Cinemax softcore and hardcore porn in one fell swoop.

I'm disgusted thinking about this but this lesson really needs to expressed. As I mentioned earlier, my e-fed was primarily a simulated affair, but I decided to incorporate roleplays into the message forum. Naturally, members flocked to this new option to play and flesh out their characters. A lot of my members were new to the roleplay game and it grew to be addictive. Trust me, I've been there. I'm one of the old people who still remember roleplaying back when Yahoo Messenger had private chat rooms, separated by topics and genres.

Of course, things got out of hand in two flavors:

  1. Members took advantage of my naive demeanor and did exactly what they wanted in roleplays, often deterring completely from wrestling altogether and just roleplayed with each other several -- if not multiple -- relationships, all of which ending with graphically and heavily detailed sex.

My issue with that is if you want to do that with someone one-on-one, do it in private. That's what emails, private messages, and instant messaging are for. Not in a public message board where everyone else can read that sick shit you're writing about and doing to each other.

The main individual responsible for headlining this movement was Shawn Damian and his handler (Mr.Black) creating an arsenal of sexual situations. I should have disciplined him much earlier than I did during my tenure as the fed-head, but of course, my mistake was wanting to go easy on the guy since I considered him to be a friend. To this day I still do, but I just wished he respected me and my e-fed enough to tone that stuff down to an extent.

As a result of my incompetence, his further activity on this matter led to him sexually harassing one of my female members out-of-character, thus causing her to promptly quit afterwards. If that woman in particular is reading this blog today, you have my deepest apologies that you had to suffer that type of treatment in my e-fed.
  2. It led into a multitude of problems with members taking actions done in-character to heart, thus causing members who are not currently affiliated or feuding with each other to have real hatred and beef with each other.

Sheena Marie often found herself drawn into the personal dynamics of these roleplays and storylines and felt that she was constantly being attacked from all angles, especially from the handler of Sunny at the time. I had to play the part of referee during these verbal bouts between the two females, with no end in this hatred for one another in sight. Eventually, Sheena's temper got the better of her, resulting in her deleting her own account out of rage. I didn't have any other choice but to allow her to stay gone from the e-fed. The years have passed and we are finally on speaking terms again, but I would like Sheena to know this -- You have a wealth of creativity within but so much bottled up aggression as well. I hope you find the means to continue to express yourself while not allowing the world to tear you apart emotionally.
Sadly, the roleplaying issues didn't stop here. As ZXWWF entered its second year, things only got even worse...

TO BE CONTINUED...

Why Am I A Gamer?

In light of the tragedies spread around the country with between the recent Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, Connecticut and Taft Union High School shooting in California, I have witnessed the media point several fingers at video games for the forces deemed responsible for driving an individual to these extreme public displays of violence.

While I could easily go on a rant which could be considered the most) to blame in the wake of these tragedies - the absence of proper parenting, lack of friends and loved ones who did nothing despite the warning signs exhibited by these troubled individuals, the lack of gun control in the household, how mental health in this country is an issue that needs to be addressed in this country, or the influence of the media in general on the current generations' minds, I choose to take the other option that stands before me.

Across several message boards and gaming websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Kotaku, IGN, GameFAQs and even Caws.ws, I have seen my fellow gamers express their distaste on this matter as well. Some of whom even vowing to drop the overly violent genres -- namely first person shooters -- entirely from their gaming repertoire out of disgust from what has happened in reality. To be honest, I really don't blame them.

Over the last few weeks, I really put some time into wondering why I play the particular games that I enjoy the most and why do I even take pride in being a gamer at all.

This won't be the only time that I give my readers a look into my past, but I'm going to give you guys a scope of what video games do for me.

I have many friends. Some I hold dear and consider to be as close as family no matter how far apart we are, others have known me for years, barely exchanging words here and there over the roughly three decades of my existence on this planet, but I would not have it any other way. I cherish my friends - small or large; religious or atheist; straight, gay or lesbian - I don't judge. A friend is a friend to me. I haven't taken for granted for a moment that I have a loving family with siblings and parents who will support me in anything I decide to put my mind to in life. Not many people in this world have that novelty nowadays.

Despite all that I have going positively in terms of friends and family, I have always felt incomplete.

A far back as I can remember, video games have managed to fill that void within me.

Megaman X & Zero
When my older siblings left me alone at home with my parents during my budding adolescent years, when they took off onto their own adventures into adulthood and college, I called Mega Man X and Zero my friends, and followed Cloud Strife and the members of AVALANCHE as they embarked on their journeys to vanquish the evil Sigma and stop Sephiroth and JENOVA's plots to destroy the planet (Final Fantasy VII). I followed in demon-hunter Dante's footsteps, pretending to be 'cool' and stylish as we disposed of every demon in our way. I followed Samus Aran, Link, and Alucard, assisting them (in exploring) countless labyrinths and facing several horrors - all to save the galaxy from the menace of Count Dracula, the evil Ganon, and the Metroids. I even managed to topple thirteen colossi with The Wanderer for the slightest hope that we would be able to revive his deceased love (Shadow of the Colossus).

I know it sounds crazy, but video games, much like my interests in comics and anime, became my escape from reality. But what is "escapism"?

"Escapism is a way of refocusing one’s attention on pleasant or enjoyable things, as opposed to the hard realities of the everyday world. It can be a healthy means for not getting completely depressed by reality, or in extreme forms, can result in obsessive behaviors that make people completely ignore reality to their detriment.
Healthy escapism is probably one of the first practices of the developing human species. Who can evaluate such things as cave paintings or the first works of artisans without suggesting that people sometimes needed to focus on things that were not mundane or entirely useful? Little usefulness might be derived from painting a cave painting, or from looking at one. There may have been some practical impetus behind artistic intent, such as teaching people how to slay a mammoth. In reality, however, the focus on something other than the mundane was likely a relief.
Modern escapism in a healthy sense could include reading a favorite book, watching a sports program, watching “mindless” television, or playing a few hours of Tetris. There is very little harm in the occasional escape from reality in such forms." (-- via WiseGeek.com)

When real life offers me a bowl of shit on a platter, I prefer to sit back, relax, and escape into another realm for a while. Escapism is a healthy means of coping with reality, especially when it hurts us the most.

Even though I don't agree with your choice, I still salute
you, my friend.
Note: Due to the privacy of this matter, I'm not going to disclose full details on this situation.

Back when I was in high school, I was close friends with an individual who I shared a lot of common interests with. Then, one day out of nowhere, he killed himself. For a long time, I questioned what I could have done to save him or how I should have noticed something earlier that something was not right about him. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that I couldn't do that to my friends and family. I just could not do that to the ones I care about no matter how much hell life presents me with. As a result, I found myself immersed even deeper into the multiple/different worlds that video games provide.

When I drew the urge to punch someone, I escaped within the genre of fighting and wrestling games.

When I drew the urge to just want to leave this place or setting that I have lived for so many years, but lacked the means to do so, I escaped within the genres of action, adventure, and RPG games.

We've all had this moment in one
way or another...
I won't lie. I got caught up in that urge to kill and shoot people while playing first-person shooters with friends and colleagues in the dorms in college while Halo and GoldenEye were in their full bloom of popularity. I then migrated into TimeSplitters 2 for a while, then Gears of War, but I lost my interest in this genre by the time Call of Duty became the new 'cool' thing to do among your friends. I cannot speak for every individual who plays those games, but if it makes you happy then keep on doing it. When you begin to hurt people in reality, that's when it becomes a problem.

For me, my fascination dropped from the genre from a lack of identification. In films, "identification" works like this:

"Most Hollywood films work through this mode of identification. They give us a character — someone safe, someone we like, someone we trust — and then throw us into the mayhem. We identify with someone in the film, as if the film were a representation of real action and this character was our tour guide.
It sounds almost obvious, doesn’t it? Of course a film is a representation; of course we identify with a character. What else could happen? But identification is just one mode, one architecture, of the cinematic experience. There is real life; there is the camera that records; there is the projector and screen that plays it back." (-- via Thought Catalog)

Identification works the same way in video games. In the first-person shooters, you only see your avatar's hands for 90% of the gaming experience. The remaining 10% is outside of your control from cut scenes where you watch your avatar do things on his own and you are promptly removed from your escapist mindset as the cut scene reminds the player that this is a game and you are not your avatar. If I can't identify with my avatar in any way, then the game fails to draw me in and my time is wasted attempting to escape reality when I could do so by easier means in different genres.

Like with film over the past century, video games have evolved from a mere child's past time to a full-blown artistic media outlet, with some titles featuring compelling stories and melodramas that could compete with any Hollywood feature film today. These interactive odysseys are a spectacle to behold and it's those experiences that are why I find myself so passionate about continuing to have gaming as part of my life. Some of those experiences are even better when you have someone to share them with cooperatively or via discussion as gaming offers some unique adventures that you cannot find in any other corner of today's media.

That's why we have the means to "escape," Squall.
That is why I am a gamer. With my controller in hand, I have exclusive access to an infinite amount of worlds outside of our own. Taking pleasure in the enjoyment of these fantasy realms is not a crime - not partaking in these fruits are. I will continue to navigate these infinite realms as long as my imagination will allow me to do so. Maybe our world is fucked up beyond reasoning in reality, but you can be damn sure I can easily find the means to visit one that's more up my alley.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings, guys and gals.

REVIEW: Anarchy Reigns

Finally, the time has come. Rev up those chainsaws and whip out those laser blades as ANARCHY REIGNS has arrived outside of Japan for the low, low retail price of $29.99!! It has been definitely been well worth the wait, but does it live up to the hype for this latest marvel from the minds of Platinum Games?

Gameplay Modes:

Campaign

The story of the game follows Jack Cayman (the protagonist from MadWorld) or Leonhardt "Leo" Victorian as they embark on a quest to find Maximillian Caxton, each for their own different reasons. Jack's story is called Black Side, while Leo's story is called White Side respectively. Without giving any spoilers, both campaigns eventually intertwine before coming to their inevitable conclusion, in the game's finale dubbed Red Side

Missions are set up similar to MadWorld. You are limited to a hub-like environment, where enemies continuously respawn to be defeated in a multitude of ways due to the many weapons and items scattered around the environment, as well as the player's own combat prowess. Upon amassing a target amount of points, Free Missions and Story Missions unlock. Free Missions are very similar to the DeathWatch mini-games in MadWorld, allowing players to garner points quickly by more chaotic means as their skills are put to the test. These missions can be replayed as many times as the player wishes in that given mission. Story Missions on the other hand, cannot be replayed, until the level has been unlocked in Stage Select play on the main menu.

During Missions, Active Time Events can occur at anytime to change up gameplay. These events can either make gameplay more difficult by changing the map layout, spawning more powerful foes, or random missile strike being dropped onto the map while making it more easier for players by a random supply drop of items and weapons or health regeneration station spawning to restore lost health. These ATEs carry over into Multiplayer modes as well, helping to define what sets Anarchy Reigns from other brawlers and multiplayer games.

Sadly, the campaign only nets you about 5-10 hours of gameplay from the initial playthrough but achievement hunters will be plowing through the campaign at least four times to rake up majority of the achievements and/or trophies.

Online Multiplayer

The game features a diverse range of multiplayer modes, including Tag Team, Battle Royale, Death Match, Capture the Flag, and Survival.

I haven't had a chance to test out EVERY match-type but that is for two glaring issues right now. 1) Not many people in North America have picked up onto this title, so it's hard enough to fill rooms to max capacity without the use of AI bots. 2) There are so many gameplay modes to try out, so it's going to take some time to test out everything.

For everything that goes on in this game that is either blowing up or how many characters are on the screen at any given time, the game has a superb netcode. Capcom and Namco can take notes from Platinum Games and Sega on this. There's little to no lag, and when lag is present (namely in matches against players outside of North America) it's not bad enough to ruin the overall gameplay experience.

Speaking of player skill, you can definitely tell who has been grinding away at this title since the import release during the Summer 2012 and the newcomers to this title. Veterans who were impatient and imported this title early (thanks to the disk lacking a region-lock) are well-versed in tactics and online strategies. I highly suggest newcomers spend plenty of time honing their skills in offline modes before hanging with the big boys online for competitive play.

That being said, I plan on updating this review with more feedback on the online modes, so stay tuned.

Tutorial

Tutorial is a series of exercises, easily familiarizing newcomers to the controls and techniques found in Anarchy Reigns.

I HIGHLY recommend all players start with this mode first. The all of the skills you acquire here will stay with you during your entire journey throughout Anarchy Reigns, either on offline play and on online multiplayer modes. I am highly grateful that Platinum Games thought enough about their players to include an asset like this to assist newcomers to learning this game.

Training

Most fighting game veterans will find themselves at home in this mode. Players can practice individual character combos or even simulate multiplayer matches with AI bots. This mode is definitely an asset to assist players to taking their skills to the next level.

Pre-Order Exclusive DLC

Pre-ordering the game nets players both the Bayonetta Character Unlock and 2 Exclusive Modes: Dog Fight and Mad Survival.

Bayonetta offers her talents as an Umbran Witch in Anarchy Reigns' Multiplayer Modes. She definitely lives up to her reputation as she's a fuckin' celebrity in this town too.

Dog Fight attaches all players to a flying helicopter as they all attempt to knock each other out of the sky.

Mad Survival teams 3 players together to take on enemy hordes composed of other playable characters in Anarchy Reigns

Fortunately, Platinum Games and Sega have announced that this DLC will be available to all players at a later date.

The Verdict?

I have been pumped for this title's release since first hearing about it two years ago and have been following every bit of news, YouTube videos, and tidbits I could find on the game. I even managed to secure a copy of the demo from the Japanese Xbox Live Marketplace just for I could get an advanced hands-on preview of the game prior to everyone else.

That being said, I have a few issues with this title. I don't see why Sega waited so long to release this title. From what I have played on the import demo, it's literally the same game with little to nothing unchanged. There's still some lip syncing issues on character models in Campaign Mode that were forgivable in the import demo that managed to still have English voice acting already included, but with that extra few months before the international release, you would think they would have addressed that issue. Sadly, no dice. It's not awful to the point that it ruins the overall experience, just really annoying and lazy on their behalf from my perspective.

My biggest gripe is that the story is over a little too fast. It goes straight to the point without any swerves or sidetracks but I would have preferred a huge twist somewhere in the plot. I will admit the several references to MadWorld were enjoyable though and I am grateful that Platinum Games cares that there are still fans of that title still around. Although after finishing the game for the first time, I must say I'm rather confused on the ending, but I'm assuming that my questions will be answered after my next playthrough from Leo's perspective.

I experienced a few gameplay glitches in single player though. After encountering one of the random Active Timed Events, all of my attack options were disabled. Fortunately, exiting back out to the main menu and reloading my save back to my point on that mission remedied that issue. Another notable flaw were some hit-detection issues during some of the larger-than-life boss encounters and during particular special attacks.

On the positive side, for the price of $29.99 I can live with these minor gripes with this title. The good here definitely outweighs the bad. From more of the chaotic, over-the-top action that players have come to love from Platinum Games' titles to arsenal of means to enjoy this title - both online and offline, I definitely recommend this title to anyone who is looking for something a bit different in their gaming libraries.

Anarchy Reigns isn't like anything else in the market right now and it's truly a spectacle to behold as Platinum Games has managed to reinvent yet another gaming genre. I give this a 8.75 out of 10

REVIEW: Django Unchained (2012)

Quentin Tarrantino is back at it again, with a tale set in the Old West during the time where African-Americans were still being traded and forced to work as slaves on plantations. With slavery as the key subject manner of this film, it goes without question that there would be vast amounts of controversy surrounding this film.

I, myself, am an African-American male and I will give all of you, my adoring audience my incite and thoughts going through my head as I viewed this film. Let's get this review started shall we?

The Plot (contains full spoilers)

In 1858, several male slaves are being transported across Texas by the Speck brothers. In their group is Django (Jamie Foxx), who was separated from his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington) when they were sold to different buyers at a slave auction. The Speck brothers encounter Dr. King Schultz (Christoph Waltz), a German dentist and, unbeknownst to them, bounty hunter. Schultz frees Django and kills one of the Speck brothers, leaving the other to be killed by the now-free slaves. Schultz reveals that he sought out Django to aid him in identifying the Brittle brothers, a trio of ruthless killers working for a plantation owner. Schultz confesses that his bounty hunting profession is opportunistic, but emphasizes to Django that he "despises slavery". The two come to an agreement: in exchange for helping locate the Brittle brothers, Schultz will free Django from slavery and give him $75 and a horse. After hunting down and killing the Brittle brothers, Schultz takes Django on as his associate in bounty hunting. Django is initially uneasy about his newfound role, but soon proves himself to be talented.

After collecting a number of bounties, Schultz and Django confirm that Broomhilda's current owner is Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCarpio), a charming but brutal plantation owner. At Candie's plantation, Candyland, some of his male slaves are trained to fight to the death in a sport known as "Mandingo fighting". After securing an invitation to Candyland, Schultz and Django devise a plan to reach Broomhilda by posing as potential purchasers of Mandingo fighters. Upon their arrival, Schultz introduces Django as a free man, which causes hostility at Candyland, where racism is extreme. They witness a runaway slave's execution by being torn apart by attack dogs but quickly come to an agreement to purchase a Mandingo fighter. Schultz offers to also purchase Broomhilda, claiming that he noticed that she speaks German and feels that she would help alleviate his nostalgia for his mother tongue. Candie agrees to the sale.

Schultz and Django's interest in Broomhilda raises the suspicions of Candie's staunch head slave, Stephen (Samuel L. Jackson). He correctly deduces that Django and Broomhilda know each other, and that the Mandingo sale is a ruse. He informs Candie, who, armed with this information, demands $12,000 for Broomhilda, threatening to kill her if they decline. Schultz and Django agree to purchase Broomhilda at this price, but Candie's humiliating, unsportsmanlike behavior enrages Schultz. Schultz kills Candie after the paperwork finalizing the sale is completed, but Schultz is shot and killed in turn as Django tries to escape Candyland. Django shoots some of Candie's men in the household, but surrenders when Stephen threatens to order Broomhilda's death. As punishment, Stephen suggests Django to be sent to a coal mine and worked to death, and Candie's sister Lara agrees. En route to the mine, Django convinces the slave drivers that he is a bounty hunter, showing them the handbill from his first kill as proof. Once freed, he kills the slave drivers, takes their dynamite, and rides back to Candyland.

Returning to the plantation, Django discovers Schultz's body and takes the certificate of freedom that Candie signed for Broomhilda as part of the purchase agreement before his death. Django enters the unoccupied Candyland mansion and plants the dynamite. When the residents return from Candie's funeral, he kills the gunmen and Lara, frees the house slaves, shoots Stephen in the knees, and lights the dynamite's fuse. Django rides away with Broomhilda, leaving the wounded Stephen to die in the explosion. (-- via Wikipedia)

My Thoughts

First of all, the soundtrack to this film is beautiful and delightful to the ears. That's one of many talents Quentin Tarrantino has a knack for, and that's a good ear for music. The cinematography for this film really stands out as well, displaying the gorgeous landscapes that Django and Schultz traverse through on their adventure together.

I wonder how many people could catch on that the gunfight after Schultz is killed is shot almost identical to the finale of Scarface

Give me an Oscar, dammit!!
Secondly, I'm glad to see that Quentin Tarrantino is continuing to learn from his mistakes of previous films. To me, Kill Bill Volume 2 and Death Proof, fell flat on their faces because Quentin Tarrantino LOVES to include a long and lengthy dialogue session between the key characters in his films to capture the naturalist quality of that spectacle and draw his viewers in. He finally realized that not everyone is a film studies major and/or graduate and can endure that much of dialogue in one sitting without progressing the plot further. Django Unchained delivers a perfect balance of dialogue and action set pieces to ease the boredom.

Good job, Kerry.
Thirdly, I have to give the entire cast an applause for a job well done, but it's DiCaprio, Jackson, and Waltz who shine through as the true stars of this film. DiCaprio continues to impress me with his diverse variety of skills on acting since I have seen his work in Shutter Island and Inception. He refuses to allow himself to fall into that one type of character that most actors find themselves 'comfortable' in and constantly evolves and continues to challenge himself in different roles and archetypes. Jackson seems to whore himself out into everything he lends his talents too, and this film is no exception. He is the character that everyone will be talking about for years to come and filling Internet memes about. He didn't make me laugh this much since his roles in both The Boondocks and Pulp Fiction. Waltz is considered to some as the unsung star of Inglourious Basterds and he continues to shine in this film. I don't want to discredit Foxx for his work here, as he was definitely a much better choice for the role of Django, rather that Quentin Tarrantino's first choice, Will Smith, who backed out of the role after the controversy surrounding the film prior to its release. Kerry Washington's part was mediocre at best as any female black actress could have done her role to similar effect. She suffers from the same "meh" factor that Beyonce Knowles encountered when she appeared in Austin Powers in Goldmember. Her acting wasn't great nor it wasn't bad either - she just was really there.

Last but not least, I want to speak about the controversy surrounding this film. Okay, I'm a black guy and I had tons of laughs during this film from start to finish. I can understand that this is touchy subject manner to most of the community, but it is no different than that "The Story of Catcher Freeman" episode of The Boondocks where Grandad was telling Huey and Riley a very similar tale to this one. I did notice that almost everytime the infamous N word was said it was as if the white actors and actresses were literally afraid to say it. That alone made me smile a bit, as it shows that they have some respect for our culture and how brutal this period of time was for our people. In all honesty, I don't see why African-Americans are still offended by the use of the N word as the rap culture uses it continuously and most of our people use it openly in almost every aspect of their lives. Hell, I'm sure there going to be several Caucasian people offended after seeing this film from how brutal some of the deaths of plantation owners and other 'bounties' are put to rest. I'm not going to lie - I was literally in tears laughing at the finale. But let's be serious here people. If we haven't learned anything at all from this film or The Boondocks, it's okay to laugh at ourselves every now and then.

The Verdict?

The film runs at roughly a bit close to three hours, but it was an enjoyable experience. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about the film that would deter one's experience, save that if the subject manner of slavery and the extreme violence that one should expect from Tarrantino's work would disturb you in any way, then don't see this film. Otherwise, I highly recommend Tarrantino's fans - both old and new, to give this one a shot. I give this a 9.5 out of 10

Now if only Quentin Tarrantino can release that 5 hour cut of this film and the 6 hour cut of Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair for we can see both of these films as how they were intended...

RANT: The Lack of Excitement for Madusa's Possible Appearance on RAW's 20th Anniversary

As many of you know, I frequent several wrestling forums and message boards just to see some of the reactions and feedback on mainstream wrestling as of late and low and behold, I come across a topic mentioning the high possibility of Madusa/Alundra Blayze attending Monday Night RAW's 20th Anniversary show.

Immediately, I start reading the comments to see if other women's wrestling fans share my enthusiasm. Let's look at some of the comments shall we? These are from several different forums.

"Alundra Blayze. I don't even wanna see her. I couldn't care less about her. I want Shane O' Mac though."
"I could care less about Alundra Blaze but it's better than the same Legends as usual I guess. (Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter)"
"I would cry if Madusa showed up, LOVE HER, a true Legend in the wrestling sport, havent always agreed with everything she has done (ie womens title lol), but there is no denying she is a legend in the sport and made a name for herself,
and plus with her having showing up, it would be something different, something new and cool, kinda like Wendi Richter back in June, so fingers crossed for her to appear, but i feel she might be tricking us in a way
I am hoping for Trish, Lita, Ivory, Madusa, and Sable all to appear
former diva i dont wanna appear Candice Michelle, Stacy Keilber, Melina, and uggghhh vomit, cant belive im gonna type her name Sunny"

I wasn't going to get pissed about this at first but the more I think about the more it pisses me off. Every time WWE offers one of these 'blast from the past' shows, the same marks who claim they want bigger and better things for women in mainstream wrestling bitch and moan about the SAME few women coming back for one night only. It's ALWAYS Trish Stratus and Lita they have at the top of their lists.

Let's talk about both of these women shall we? Both talented and decorated Divas for their time, I will give them that, but the last thing the current crop of WWE Divas needs is another fateful visit from Trish Stratus and Lita that would set the division back another decade.

First example, the 2009 return of Trish Stratus to team up with John Cena against the team of Glamarella (Beth Phoenix & Santino)

After this match, Beth Phoenix's dominance so far in the division was regarded as joke and she failed to keep her momentum going afterwards before losing the title. Instead of putting the Glamazon over, Trish Stratus does what she normally does, puts herself over at the cost of her opponent.

Second example, the team of John Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Snooki versus LayCool (Michelle McCool, Layla, and Dolph Ziggler at WrestleMania 27

One could argue that Snooki hogged the spotlight in more ways than one here, but in all fairness, Trish Stratus' presence was not required here in the least. This was a huge waste of the WWE Divas in this match that could have been spent on a legitimate contest for the championship. It was bigger waste of time for the talents of John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler as well, but that's a different subject altogether.

One more fun fact, why did Trish Stratus come back for Tough Enough the other year? Simple. She just wanted to plug her yoga crap and her soon-to-be appearance in that Bounty Hunters movie that went straight to DVD. As always, she is in this for herself. She hasn't done anything to prove to me to think otherwise. As the record books have shown, she hasn't ever really given anything back to the division. Her returns always end with her squashing the opposition. Even The Rock knows how to return, get the fuck beat of out of you then leave as a show of respect to put the next big, up and comer over (See Evolution). Lita's not that far from that mold either. She has my respect for bringing the lucha libre style of wrestling into the mainstream scene for women, as well as breaking that cookie cutter image of how Divas are 'supposed' to look - even though Luna Vachon (RIP) broke ground in that area first.

Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of the other former Divas aren't innocent to this as well. Majority of the former fitness models join WWE just to get their name out there and contribute some minor success with the company before parting ways to pursue their own projects like acting, more modeling, or their own fashion lines. As a result, it hurts the current crop of Divas even more. As quickly as they build up another pretty face as the top dog, she drops out just as fast to pursue other "less dangerous" outlets than wrestling.

It just pisses me off to no end that the vast majority of so-called women's wrestling fans keep their heads shoved so far up Trish Stratus and Lita's asses that they could taste what they had for breakfast last week. As a result, they fail to see that WWE has many pioneers in Divas Division and it's not just those two. How many times has WWE called back Jacqueline, Molly Holly, Ivory, Terri Runnels, Jazz, or Victoria (Tara) to return? These are several women who helped mold those two women into the "stars" they are today.

I understand that there are still fans that are pissed at Madusa for what she did to the original Women's Championship...

C'mon guys get over yourselves. If Bret Hart can come back after the Montreal Screwjob then it's all fair for Madusa to come back after trashing the Women's title. Madusa is one of the original pioneers of the division in the early '90s and I personally would LOVE to see her back, even if it is for one night only.

Truth be told that she reached out to WWE last year, offering to drop the original Women's Championship to then-champion Beth Phoenix to give some credibility to that retarded bullshit of a title called the Divas Championship. If that's not giving something back to the current generation then I don't know what is.

My fellow women's wrestling fans I ask to you before you open your mouths, remember to give credit where it is due. Without the powerful display of emotions by Miss Elizabeth, we wouldn't have female managers in the sport today, like Aksana and Rosa Mendes. Without women, such as Jacqueline, Madusa, and Chyna, who paved the way and showed that they can be just as tough as the boys and provided that women like Beth Phoenix, Natalya, and Kharma have a spot on in the industry today. Without women like Sable, who proved that Divas can be both sexy and talented in the ring, future Divas such as Trish Stratus, Kelly Kelly, Candice Michelle, and Eve Torres wouldn't be around today.

Those are only FEW of the many testaments and sacrifices that many talented women BEFORE Trish Stratus and Lita came into the picture. Unlike most typical Diva fans, I would rather see more homages and respect ushered in for these women of old than those who just recently showed up for the RAW 1000th anyway.

The First RAW of 2013: Did It Rock or Was It Full of Shit?

First things first, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! Secondly, this won't be a full show write-up as I'm just going to discuss points of my personal points of interest on this broadcast.

"AJ rubbing up against Ziggler and Big E?" Yeah, I'm not
touching that one either Cena, LOL.
Monday Night RAW starts off with John Cena in typical babyface fashion. He is shortly interrupted by the arrival of Dolph Ziggler, AJ Lee, and Big E Langston. This is was a VERY entertaining exchange, with Cena being on a roll on the comedy for once.

Of course the exchange had to end with an invitation for "Ziggy" (as how AJ referred DZ as) to get into the ring but not before Big E surprised the WWE Universe by speaking for the first time. I just personally hope he doesn't speak again ANYTIME soon. He still looks like Bobby Lashley cosplaying as Nation of Domination Ron Simmons and D'Lo Brown.

As the reigning NXT Champion, he hasn't done anything to generate any interest from me on the main roster. If Big E keeps this up then I see his career going down the same route as Big Zeke and Bobby Lashley after his initial push fizzles out and then finds himself fading into obscurity.

The match that followed afterwards was the typical fashion that we have come to expect from Ziggy and Cena's encounters for the last few months, ending with multiple officials being taken out before Big E secured the win for Ziggy. I cannot express enough my distaste for making Ziggler look so weak before he even cashes in the Money in the Bank briefcase. At this rate, it's a guarantee that Big E will do all of the dirty work with Ziggler being a mere placeholder with the World Heavyweight Championship, rather a solid competitor.

Divas Championship Match - Eve Torres vs. Kaitlyn

WWE continues to disappoint me with the direction of how they are taking with the WWE Divas. 2013 is already off to bad start. Eve Torres is the reigning champion and she manages to put up little to no offense against Kaitlyn who hits her with roughly every signature and finisher in her arsenal before Eve wisely flees the ring to safety.

The finish/ending was rather weak as well. Kaitlyn gets the win - cool, but Eve looked VERY weak in comparison. She already took that beating throughout that entire bout and didn't bother to fight back with a second wind. Instead, she uses the opportunity from the break in Kim Possible's offense to grab her title and haul ass like a coward through the crowd. One would think that the GM or whoever is calling himself or herself the authority figure on RAW, that they would restart the match and order her to take her fine ass back to that damn ring. Brain cells are an endangered species on mainstream wrestling nowadays.

Team Hell No! vs. Rhodes Scholars

Dazzler? Really?
Most of the match was spent by commentary talking about Cody's absurd mustache that looks like pubic hair to me and Daniel Bryan's new alias on Twitter as "Dazzler". Umm, apparently no one told Daniel that Dazzler was one of the lamest members of the X-Men, who shopped in the same stores as Jem and the Holograms. D-Bry, this is NOT who you want to be, buddy. Seriously, what is up with the Marvel Comics' references in WWE as of late? First, the Shield now this Dazzler crap? What's next, Cody Rhodes is going to start calling himself the Archangel?

A win from the Rhodes Scholars might guarantee them another title opportunity in the near future, as Rhodes hit Bryan with the Cross Rhodes to pick up the victory while Kane was busy dealing with Sandow at ringside.

I get that  WWE is milking the comedy of the union of Team Hell No! for as long as they can, but I really hope 2013 is the year where we see WWE's Tag Team Division to the next level. We haven't seen the division doing well over the last few years, but I'm optimistic this is the time for that. They have the talent, now they just have to use them properly instead of using the division as a mediocre comedy outlet.

3MB's Heath Slater vs. Randy Orton

This one went on a LOT longer than I would have liked. Regardless, we got to see Orton deliver RKOs to the entire band.

I still say WWE needs to give TNA royalties on recycling the Rock N Rave Infection...

Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett vs. Santino Marella (w/ Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat) - Non-Title Match

Squash match. Moving on...

I will say this. I get that WWE is trying to get this dude over with the "Bare Knuckle Brawler" gimmick as the guy is one of the few students of The Undertaker, but don't get me wrong but he's missing that "it" factor to propel him into main event status. Having him squashing jobbers on a regular basis since taking the title from the lackluster previous IC champion, Kofi Kingston, isn't helping either. All I ask is that this dude does something memorable with his title run that merit my attention. Otherwise, send him back down to NXT to reinvent himself and hone his talents.

United States Championship Match - Antonio Cesaro vs. The Great Khali

This was merely a repeat performance of their match on Main Event last Wednesday. Yawn...

C'mon, WWE give Cesaro a REAL challenge. And I'm not talking about The Miz since they literally trying to shove him down our throats as a legit babyface. He can talk the talk, but no, toss him Barrett's way.

I dunno, maybe the returning Christian? Or maybe any of those up and coming guys on NXT... Kassius Ohno anyone? Just a suggestion.

3MB's Jinder Mahal vs. Sheamus

Another squash... Moving on...

WWE Championship Match - CM Punk vs. Ryback - TLC Match

CM Punk is medically cleared to compete and Ryback is ready to compete in his attire inspired by his role models Grape Ape, Grimace from McDonald's and the Incredible Hulk. Mullet not included.

A typical variety of TLC match that any modern day WWE fan can enjoy but won't be surprised in the least. Of course, The Shield would deliver the buzzkill of this match, interfering and literally handing the end result to CM Punk. No offense to Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns but with the way that WWE Creative is handling this angle, they should just stop bullshitting and attach these guys to CM Punk. Their brand of 'justice' looking like they are the heels of WWE's henchmen. I got the perfect merchandise for them for WWEShopzone too (see right).

Monster... Nerd? Team Hell No! has to get their regular therapy check up next week on RAW? Okay, whatever. No doubt that should be worth a few shits and giggles.

Kofi Kingston vs. World Heavyweight Champion The Big Show

Wow... ANOTHER squash match. The Big Show drops him with a single WMD shot right out of the gate.

This isn't looking good for Kofi's career. After that stale run as Intercontinental Champion and losing the title to Wade Barrett, it seems like WWE has lost faith in his ability as champion. He's another candidate who needs to be dropped back to NXT to spend some time to re-invent himself. Kofi should be main event material by now instead of the average chicken fodder. He needs to consider the direction of his career with WrestleMania right around the corner. If he doesn't change things up, he's going to find himself continue to lose left and right just like Jack Swagger and JTG last year.

I have been a fan of The Big Show for years and on one hand I'm glad to see The Big Show with a credible title reign in this stage of his aging career, with his bouts with Sheamus have been some of the best matches he has put on in years. His upcoming defense against Alberto Del Rio is going to be coin toss though, as WWE doesn't seem to know what to do with ADR. During the week of Christmas, ADR was randomly slapped back into the role of a heel before being launched back into the role of a babyface as he came to Ricardo's defense last week on RAW. Let's just hope Alberto Del Rio can prove himself to be a worthy competitor like Sheamus can stand in The Big Show's way to truly challenge the World's Largest Athlete before WWE decides to take the title off of him.

CM Punk's Pipebomb vs. The Rock's Return to RAW

CM Punk starts things off with reminding everyone why he is so successful. To say people praises his initial pipebomb from the sheer amounts of truth that were said, this one has to be his best work by far, with CM Punk expressing the one simple truth that many so-called wrestling fans don't get even up to this day. You can be the best talker, the best grappler, but if you can't get over with the fans/audience then that means nothing.

Enter The Rock. He reminds CM Punk that he has a lot to worry about come Royal Rumble when they step into the ring. Rock brings his usual charm and flair to the table but CM Punk doesn't waver at all in his resolve. CM Punk fires back that he is the Best in the World and it doesn't matter when or where The Rock or any other washed up has-been comes out of retirement from Hollywood or sitting at home, the end result will be the same - he will win and still be the WWE Champion.

The Rock ends their verbal exchange with his prediction for Royal Rumble - saying that he will send CM Punk back to the rock bottom of WWE literally and ends Monday Night RAW with a devastating Rock Bottom.

The Final Verdict?

The show started off on a hilarious note, with John Cena getting his recycled routine out of the way early on the show and we didn't have to see him the rest of the night afterwards.

Sadly, the meat of tonight's broadcast was full of mediocre and lackluster matches that only served as filler to  both the WWE Championship Match between CM Punk and Ryback and the anticipation of the return of The Rock at the end of the broadcast.

I don't understand this. Week in, week out, WWE struggles to deliver on quality matches on a weekly basis when they have the talent to deliver. Instead, WWE focuses on delivering comedy more than actual wrestling.

Onto The Rock and CM Punk's exchange of words. I love The Rock as much as the next person when it comes to him talking on the microphone, but I would have be a fool to deny that CM Punk won this battle tonight. CM Punk buried him before his music even hit honestly. At this rate, this is going to be bigger verbal burial than what John Cena was giving him during the build-up to WrestleMania last year.

Don't get me wrong. The Rock had a few funny shots in there, but it's going to take more than cookie-puss to beat the Best in the World on the microphone, Dwayne.

The final verdict? The ending segment rocked but the rest of the show? Not so much.

Xbox 360 Controller Reviews for Pad Players in the FGC

I know it's already bad enough for pad players like myself to enjoy fighting games on the Xbox 360 with their horrid default controller for the console, so to aid in the search for the perfect controller of choice. I'm going to post up some short reviews of the MANY controllers I have come across in last 3-4 years.

Batman: Arkham City Batarang Controller (Xbox 360/PS3)

Pros:

- This controller features a neat LED effect while playing and the color is customizable with a push of the button above the Guide button.

- Vibration support included as well, and the face buttons are firm and sturdy.

- The controller is a decent weight. It's not too light nor too heavy.

Cons:

- Shortly after a few uses, it develops a "ghosting" effect as the analog sticks start moving on their own from the sensitivity and faulty engineering.

- The shoulder buttons are bit too sensitive then the triggers take a bit more effort to register during gameplay.

- Voice chat support is hit or miss as most of the time I had to switch over to my wireless headset while using this controller for fighters.

The Verdict?

Unless you can find this for less than $10 don't waste your time. I used this for Asura's Wrath, Assassin's Creed, ACII, AC: Brotherhood, Batman: Arkham City, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (for one week), and finally AC: Revelations before getting the ghosting effect that hindered my gameplay.

Nonetheless, if you're a Batman fan, it does look cool among the rest of your gaming collection...

HORI EX 2 Fightpad for Xbox 360 (w/ Turbo feature)

Pros:

- This controller doubles as an excellent pad for first-person shooters as well as for fighting games.

- Turbo feature built into the controller along with sensitivity switches as well.

- A directional pad that is similar to the one found on the PS2 and SNES.

- A six button layout that is highly preferred for fighting games, such as Street Fighter IV and Mortal Kombat.

Cons:

- The dreaded ghosting effect is destined for any gamer who expects to use this controller for long-term use.

- The sensitivity switches don't really have any effect on gameplay unless you play off the analog sticks, namely in first-person shooters.

- The face buttons are VERY small, except for the RB and LB ones on the right side.

The Verdict?

It's sad to see that HORI has one bad egg in their line-up of normally stellar products. $15 is a bit fair for this, but you can really do better than this whether you're into fighting games or shooters.

MadCatz Xbox 360 Wired Controller

Pros:

- VERY cheap now. Toys R Us were selling these for roughly $15 around the holidays, possibly even less now in select stores.

- Standard 360 controller, nothing really special here, save for the arched triggers that are especially useful for first-person shooters.

Cons:

- I personally experienced the controller ghosting inputs literally two days after buying. The only reason I haven't taken it back is because I'm literally using it to get my adapter recognized by my console (see below).

- The analog sticks are far too loose for my liking, but that being said, you are getting exactly what you paid for - a CHEAP controller.

- The face buttons are VERY small on this controller.

The Verdict?

Pass on this. You are better off finding something better than this for your fighters in Wal-Mart than this. Definitely up there as one of MadCatz' worst products.

PDP Fightpad (also available for PS3)

Pros:

- This controller comes in two flavors. The plain Jane version, as pictured to the left and the Street Fighter X Tekken branded one (see below), made by MadCatz. The versions that are decorated with the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 artwork are from this initial release of the controller.

- Instead of a traditional d-pad, this controller features a joystick-like node where your thumb rests to assist the player in more accurately performing inputs in fighting games.

- This controller features the preferred six button layout with large arcade stick-like buttons on the face of the controller.

- The controller is lightweight and easy to grip.

Cons:

- The d-pad makes a LOUD clicking sound for every input registered. Long-term play is taxing on your thumb from this unorthodox means of play.

- The large size of the buttons make it very easy to hit the wrong button during the heat of battle.

- The shoulder buttons take a bit of effort to press and register.

The Verdict?

I REALLY wanted to like this pad, but over the long haul it was more brutal on my thumbs than the fruits of being able to do some techniques in fighters easily. Don't take my word for it. This is one of those products that you have to test for yourself and see if it's up your alley or not. Overall, I say don't pay anymore than $20 for this.

MadCatz Street Fighter X Tekken Fightpad (also available for PS3)

Pros:

- These fightpads were modeled after the typical Street Fighter IV fightpads that were made by MadCatz.

- The directional pad has the retro feel of older consoles, such as the Sega Saturn and Sega Genesis.

- Controller features the preferred six button layout as seen in Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter X Tekken

- The controller is lightweight and easy to grip.

Cons:

- Since these are recycles of MadCatz' previous work then there is nothing new to be found here.

- The d-pad is VERY loose and slides around during inputs.

- The light weight of the controller makes it feel as if you could break it by dropping it once.

- This controller suffers from most if not all of the issues plaguing the PDP controller.

The Verdict?

If given a choice between this or the PDP one, I rather prefer the PDP pad, it's just that loud clicking annoyed me to no end.

So What Do YOU Use?

The PS2 to Xbox 360/PS3 Controller Adapter

Pros:

- Turn any PS2 controller or peripheral into a next-gen controller!

- Easy to setup.

- VERY cheap online.

- No known input delay in fighting games.

Cons:

- Most sellers online will send this to you in the box with NO instructions on how to set it up properly. Luckily, there's a TON of easy to follow instructional videos on YouTube.

- This adapter REQUIRES you have both a wired PlayStation 2 controller and wired Xbox 360 (or PS3) controller that is compatible with the adapter. Most third party wired controllers will work with it but it's up to you to find out which ones work or not.

- I personally use this with EVERY 360 game I own now from the ease of using a PS2 controller on the 360, but have had NO issues with the adapter in gaming, save for with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 where if I configure custom controller layout while having this plugged in, my R2 and L2 buttons are disabled. I have NO idea why it does that for this game and nothing else I play.

The Verdict?

I freakin' LOVE this thing. I got hardcore into fighters back during the PlayStation 2 era of gaming so being able to use a PS2 pad on next-gen really makes me feel at home, especially on Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Until I find something else that tickles my fancy much like this, I shall continue to keep this as my weapon of choice on the battlefield.
