Immediately, I start reading the comments to see if other women's wrestling fans share my enthusiasm. Let's look at some of the comments shall we? These are from several different forums.
"Alundra Blayze. I don't even wanna see her. I couldn't care less about her. I want Shane O' Mac though."
"I could care less about Alundra Blaze but it's better than the same Legends as usual I guess. (Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter)"
"I would cry if Madusa showed up, LOVE HER, a true Legend in the wrestling sport, havent always agreed with everything she has done (ie womens title lol), but there is no denying she is a legend in the sport and made a name for herself,
and plus with her having showing up, it would be something different, something new and cool, kinda like Wendi Richter back in June, so fingers crossed for her to appear, but i feel she might be tricking us in a way
I am hoping for Trish, Lita, Ivory, Madusa, and Sable all to appear
former diva i dont wanna appear Candice Michelle, Stacy Keilber, Melina, and uggghhh vomit, cant belive im gonna type her name Sunny"
I wasn't going to get pissed about this at first but the more I think about the more it pisses me off. Every time WWE offers one of these 'blast from the past' shows, the same marks who claim they want bigger and better things for women in mainstream wrestling bitch and moan about the SAME few women coming back for one night only. It's ALWAYS Trish Stratus and Lita they have at the top of their lists.
Let's talk about both of these women shall we? Both talented and decorated Divas for their time, I will give them that, but the last thing the current crop of WWE Divas needs is another fateful visit from Trish Stratus and Lita that would set the division back another decade.
First example, the 2009 return of Trish Stratus to team up with John Cena against the team of Glamarella (Beth Phoenix & Santino).
After this match, Beth Phoenix's dominance so far in the division was regarded as joke and she failed to keep her momentum going afterwards before losing the title. Instead of putting the Glamazon over, Trish Stratus does what she normally does, puts herself over at the cost of her opponent.
Second example, the team of John Morrison, Trish Stratus, and Snooki versus LayCool (Michelle McCool, Layla, and Dolph Ziggler at WrestleMania 27.
One could argue that Snooki hogged the spotlight in more ways than one here, but in all fairness, Trish Stratus' presence was not required here in the least. This was a huge waste of the WWE Divas in this match that could have been spent on a legitimate contest for the championship. It was bigger waste of time for the talents of John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler as well, but that's a different subject altogether.
One more fun fact, why did Trish Stratus come back for Tough Enough the other year? Simple. She just wanted to plug her yoga crap and her soon-to-be appearance in that Bounty Hunters movie that went straight to DVD. As always, she is in this for herself. She hasn't done anything to prove to me to think otherwise. As the record books have shown, she hasn't ever really given anything back to the division. Her returns always end with her squashing the opposition. Even The Rock knows how to return, get the fuck beat of out of you then leave as a show of respect to put the next big, up and comer over (See Evolution). Lita's not that far from that mold either. She has my respect for bringing the lucha libre style of wrestling into the mainstream scene for women, as well as breaking that cookie cutter image of how Divas are 'supposed' to look - even though Luna Vachon (RIP) broke ground in that area first.
Don't get me wrong, I know a lot of the other former Divas aren't innocent to this as well. Majority of the former fitness models join WWE just to get their name out there and contribute some minor success with the company before parting ways to pursue their own projects like acting, more modeling, or their own fashion lines. As a result, it hurts the current crop of Divas even more. As quickly as they build up another pretty face as the top dog, she drops out just as fast to pursue other "less dangerous" outlets than wrestling.
It just pisses me off to no end that the vast majority of so-called women's wrestling fans keep their heads shoved so far up Trish Stratus and Lita's asses that they could taste what they had for breakfast last week. As a result, they fail to see that WWE has many pioneers in Divas Division and it's not just those two. How many times has WWE called back Jacqueline, Molly Holly, Ivory, Terri Runnels, Jazz, or Victoria (Tara) to return? These are several women who helped mold those two women into the "stars" they are today.
I understand that there are still fans that are pissed at Madusa for what she did to the original Women's Championship...
C'mon guys get over yourselves. If Bret Hart can come back after the Montreal Screwjob then it's all fair for Madusa to come back after trashing the Women's title. Madusa is one of the original pioneers of the division in the early '90s and I personally would LOVE to see her back, even if it is for one night only.
Truth be told that she reached out to WWE last year, offering to drop the original Women's Championship to then-champion Beth Phoenix to give some credibility to that retarded bullshit of a title called the Divas Championship. If that's not giving something back to the current generation then I don't know what is.
My fellow women's wrestling fans I ask to you before you open your mouths, remember to give credit where it is due. Without the powerful display of emotions by Miss Elizabeth, we wouldn't have female managers in the sport today, like Aksana and Rosa Mendes. Without women, such as Jacqueline, Madusa, and Chyna, who paved the way and showed that they can be just as tough as the boys and provided that women like Beth Phoenix, Natalya, and Kharma have a spot on in the industry today. Without women like Sable, who proved that Divas can be both sexy and talented in the ring, future Divas such as Trish Stratus, Kelly Kelly, Candice Michelle, and Eve Torres wouldn't be around today.
Those are only FEW of the many testaments and sacrifices that many talented women BEFORE Trish Stratus and Lita came into the picture. Unlike most typical Diva fans, I would rather see more homages and respect ushered in for these women of old than those who just recently showed up for the RAW 1000th anyway.
