PICK 5 -- Halloween-Themed Favorite Cartoons

Happy Halloween!!
While we could EASILY just mention Elvira's boobs be everything I enjoy about Halloween but let's take a break from Jem week (which I'm going to continue and hopefully wrap up on Sunday if I don't have anymore distractions in my personal life) and talk about some Halloween-themed cartoons.

Before people get pissed off, Ghostbusters is NOT on this list because that's like a given in my eyes, even more so for the Peanuts Halloween special.

Seriously... how does Cassandra Peterson/Elvira still look good after all of the years?? Isn't she like a thousand or something by now? The older I get, the more that I'm convinced that she's a fucking vampire...

Honorable Mentions:

  • It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!
  • The Real Ghostbusters
  • Ben 10: Omniverse - "Charmed, I'm sure"
  • Regular Show - Tales from the Park (ALL of them...)
  • The Simpsons - Treehouse of Horror (TOO many to mention...)
  • Doug: Doug's Halloween Adventure

The 13th Ghosts of Scooby-Doo

I have to be completely honest and admit that this is hands-down my favorite Scooby Doo series, followed by A Pup Named Scooby Doo in 2nd (Freddy and his "Red Herrings..." LMFAO). For once the monsters/ghosts were REAL, much like the "movies" in the early 2000s and the Scooby gang's antics finally served a purpose outside of the gang's usual meddling in some random goof's Saturday Morning cartoon-style supervillain's master plan at world domination...

Even though there were times I wanted to choke Scrappy Doo, but Flim-Flam made up for Scrappy Doo being so goddamn annoying. I thought it was a cool idea to pair Shaggy and Scooby with Daphne, sans Freddie and Velma. They were also joined by Vincent Van Ghoul, who was voiced and based off of Vincent Price.

The series only ran for one season, but many savvy cartoon fans should notice the style here by creator Tom Ruegger, who would go on and work on A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Tiny Toon Adventures, and Animaniacs that would each become renown for their fourth wall breaking humor. At the time of the cancellation, only eleven of the 13 ghosts were recaptured, although it is unknown if some of the ghosts captured in the two episodes "Ship of Ghouls" & "A Spooky Little Ghoul Like You" where more than one of the 13 ghosts were captured, are part of the originals.

Personally, I like to think that they caught multiple ghosts on that "Ship of Ghouls" episode and leave it at that.

Beetlejuice

Most people called this a cash-in from the live-action film of the same name that starred Michael Keaton, but of course this was scaled down in "horror" for kid-friendly audiences. Looking back at this cartoon amazes me for one reason as Tara Strong (who voices everyone underneath the sun in animation, including Batgirl in the latter half of the Batman: Animated Series, young Ben Tennyson in Ben 10, Raven in Teen Titans and Teen Titans GO!, taking over for voicing Harley Quinn in the Batman: Arkham games after Arleen Sorkin retired, and FAR too many roles to keep track of...) has doing voice work for over 20 years now.

I remember having some of the toys from this cartoon and movie when I was a kid, oftentimes pitting Beetlejuice against or teaming up with my Ghostbusters toys. Ghostbusters would have been on this list but that's like a given.

The episode above is one of my favorites mainly from the way how Beetlejuice wins the contest. Looking back at this cartoon reminds me how Lydia's parents were more scarier looking than anything in the NetherWorld...

The Addams Family

Much like the Beetlejuice cartoon, this was another "cash-in" on the TV series and live-action series of the same name with a lot of the gothic and horror themes scaled back a bit for a family-friendly approach. There's still a lot to enjoy here, especially the Normanmeyer's comical attempts to rid the town of the Addams Family and their weird obsession with underwear. In the end, it's mostly Uncle Fester's antics that always gave me a good laugh.

The Spectacular Spider-Man - "The Uncertainty Principle"

Unfortunately, I don't have a video here to watch, but you can stream the episode for yourself after following this link.

It's already awesome enough that the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon was influenced and based off of the Steve Ditko-era of Marvel Comics, but we're treated by Spider-Man having to deal with the Green Goblin, Tombstone, and Hammerhead on Halloween. As an added bonus, we get to see Mary Jane dressed up as a vampire.

I know people tend to shit on this cartoon just for the animation/art style but the storytelling MORE than makes up for it in my eyes. I'm willing to overlook that if the narrative is good.

Danny Phantom

Ah, Danny Phantom... This was my shit in high school and I'm sad that more people didn't know about this cartoon. During the latter part of the 90s to the early 2000s, Nickelodeon were still cracking out good cartoons and this was at it's forefront. Created by Guy Moon, creator of The Fairy Oddparents, The X's, and Tuff Puppy, this was his take onto the superhero genre. Danny goes throughout the series learning and adapting to his newfound ghost powers in the vein of Spider-Man. There were enough similarities to both Spider-Man AND Ghostbusters (good grief, the Ghostbusters references...) to make you laugh, but at the same time, Danny Phantom was it's own unique entity. They know how to make this dark at times while at the same time, keeping it PG enough not to scare the kids away.

The Ultimate Enemy is definitely my favorite episode from the series for a lot of reasons, but I won't spoil it for you guys. Sit back and enjoy this one.

Women's Wrestling Wednesday -- Jacqueline Moore

Welcome to a new feature that I have wanted to do for some time now, but I have kept tight lipped about it since the start of WWE's "Divas Revolution" - so I kept my mouth closed about this and sat back and enjoyed the shows like the rest of you. I have enjoyed the matches, but the sheer lack of knowledge and respect to the women that have paved the way for the women in WWE today - not just the NXT Divas, but women throughout the wrestling industry, past and present, LONG before NXT was a twinkle in his eye.

Ladies and gentlemen, I want to introduce you to Jackie Moore, or simply Jacqueline, as she was known throughout her WWE career. If I'm perfectly honest, she's the most deserving woman to garner a Hall of Fame induction at WrestleMania in Texas next year.

Jacqueline DeLois Moore (born January 6, 1964) is an African-American semi-retired professional wrestler. She is best known for her stint in World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment from 1998 to 2004 as well as working for World Championship Wrestling in 1997-98 and later Total Nonstop Action Wrestling as a wrestler, manager and road agent.

She began her career in the United States Wrestling Association, where she was an eight-time USWA Women's Champion. She later moved to World Championship Wrestling, where she briefly managed the team Harlem Heat. In 1998, she joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, later World Wrestling Entertainment). She began managing Marc Mero and had her first rivalry with Sable, which culminated in the re-establishment of the WWF Women's Championship, which Moore held twice during her time with the WWF. In 1999, she formed an all-female alliance with Terri Runnels and Ryan Shamrock called the Pretty Mean Sisters. In the early 2000s, Moore worked as both a referee and trainer for the WWF, and she also held theWWE Cruiserweight Championship, which was a title predominantly held by men. She was the third woman to accomplish the feat, but the only woman to do so under the WWE banner (following Madusa and Daffney in WCW). In 2004, she joined TNA, where she worked mostly as a manager and occasional wrestler. -- via Wikipedia

In an article for wwe.com, Jim Ross had this to say about Jacqueline's talent:

"Jackie Moore is one of, if not THE most underrated female performer ever to work in the wrestling business...
"People have to realize, Jackie was operating at a skill level that was far above many of her contempories, she had to adjust her game to the skill level of some of the ladies she was working with. A lot of women would not have done that. A lot of men in the same situation would have rebelled. But Jackie was a great teacher and did a tremendous job."

A lot of African-American (read: black) wrestlers tend to get overlooked, especially in World Wrestling Entertainment throughout their history. It was an absolute joy for me to grow up seeing Jacqueline competing against men AND women throughout her prestigious career. It wasn't a coincidence that Jacqueline was a part of roughly 4 very strong rosters of women's wrestlers - WWF's Attitude Era, WWE's Ruthless Aggression Era, and two generations of TNA Knockouts (from their humble NWA-TNA beginnings to the fruition and evolution of the proper Knockouts division throughout the years). When talking about classic Divas in wrestling, women's wrestling fans are quick to mention Lita, Trish Stratus, or Chyna, but when it comes to Jacqueline Moore, you knew it was going to be one hell of a fight. She was a solid (and unselfish) worker, always fierce in the ring, and definitely an ebony goddess of wrestling. I gladly tip my hat to the wrestling career of Jacqueline.

I hope more women's wrestling fans would learn to appreciate her contributions to this sport and realize that Jacqueline is MORE than deserving for a WWE Hall of Fame spot.

NXT Takeover: Respect -- Results & Afterthoughts

On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, WWE held NXT Takeover: Respect exclusively on the WWE Network at their native home at the Full Sail University. This event served as the finale to the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament with the Rhodes family in attendance to present the winners with the commemorative trophy. This event also marked the first ever Ironman Match between two women on the WWE roster as Sasha Banks and Bayley face off in what (should be) many believe to be their final encounter over the NXT Women's Championship as this event's main event. Please note that this is the first event where the NXT Championship is NOT on the line.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semi-Final Match - NXT Champion Finn Balor & Samoa Joe def. The Mechanics

I’ve openly expressed this a lot lately and I don’t see the reasoning why should the NXT Champion be in a TAG TEAM tournament when the damn actual Tag Team Champions (the Vaudevillains) were already eliminated EARLY into the tournament? Oh wait, it’s because WWE hasn’t bothered to build up any other Superstar up to Finn’s level, so we’re doing filler until we figure shit out? They would have challengers if NXT doesn’t automatically push every “insanely over” indie guy they sign to the moon and somehow have them in the NXT title picture within a month. Kevin Owens was on NXT for less than 6 months and made it to the main roster. I would have had Finn and Joe lose early in the tournament – much like the team of Solomon Crowe & Neville (GOD this would’ve been an AMAZING 1v1 solo feud) - due to Joe turning on Finn and inserting himself as the next challenger to his title. It’s obvious we’re never getting that “proper” Samoa Joe vs. Kevin Owens feud that was teased at Takeover a LONG while back so let’s go in this route until Hideo Itami is healed up.

This match wasn’t bad as the Mechanics are a pair of heavy-hitters – I’m still not too crazy about their ring work as they are a bit sloppy and look rather unsafe (that match from one of the TV tapings with them versus the Hype Bros. where they dropped Zack Ryder on his damn neck/head from the move without any way to land properly out of the corner). They played up Finn getting “injured” while Joe played the support role as the Mechanics segregated the ring. My only problem with this match was the fact that Finn did his finisher without any problems to say that his knee/leg was fucked up. So much for playing up the injury, buddy.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semi-Final Match
 - Baron Corbin & Rhyno def. Jason Jordan & Chad Gable

This was the match that ruined my mood for the rest of the night. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again. Baron Corbin is as exciting as watching paint dry. To say that WWE is determined to get this guy over by feeding him countless Superstars (many of which who are FAR more talented than him) to job to him just continues to piss me off that this undeserving clown continues to get pushed to the moon just because of his physique. Perfect example was tonight’s match where Chad Gable, who I have NO problem admitting that I have quickly become a fan of, worked his ass off (along with Jason Jordan, who is already one hell of a worker) in this match to no avail.

The best ending for Jordan/Gable’s storyline was to have them overcome the odds, beat Corbin/Rhyno (whose pairing makes little to NO sense to begin with after Rhyno lost to the guy and never got a rematch) and defeat a weakened Finn and Joe in the finals. Joe gets upset at Finn’s “weakness” and goes heel by turning on his partner after Jordan/Gable’s celebration. Do we get this scenario? Nope. What we get is Gable pulling out everything under the sun to try to defeat Corbin, including the freakin’ CHAOS THEORY (Rolling Bridging/Deadlift German Suplex – thank you, Doug Williams), yet STILL jobs to this fool? I’m sorry but FUCK Baron Corbin. Never liked that dude, never will.

That being said, I’m ready, willing and GABLE for a NXT Tag Team Championship feud between Jason Jordan and Chad Gable versus the Vaudevillains down the road. Well… I’m down for anything to get the Dubstep Brothers out of the #1 contender spot.

Asuka def. Dana Brooke (w/ Emma) in her NXT debut

Before we actually talk about this match, let's talk about how WWE pulled a first here on NXT, where we had the Divas interrupting a Superstar during his interview backstage as we saw an overly confident Dana Brooke interrupt Apollo Crews. Bravo on this WWE. I would love to see more of this with Superstars interacting with Divas and vice versa instead of acting like they exist in two different realities in WWE.

The first thing that I was surprised about watching this match was the fact that Asuka didn’t have a “stereotypical” entrance theme and music like how WWE traditionally tends to treat the Japanese wrestlers who cross over into their kingdom. The second was that they allowed Asuka to wear her ring gear that’s borderline lingerie. I thought the toe-shaped sneakers were a nice touch to give her more that “lioness” flair that she was going for since the woman formerly known as Kana is taking up the joshi legend Lioness Asuka’s name in WWE. Bravo, WWE. That was definitely a nice touch.

I could almost literally hear the toilet flush as Dana Brooke's momentum
goes down the drain...

As for the match itself, this was one of two matches that I wasn’t too crazy about having the newcomers come in and throw your established talent or rather in Dana Brooke’s case, your work in progress, underneath the bus. From all of the momentum that Dana Brooke was starting to garner with her new attitude and starting to get a few wins underneath her belt after being thrown to the bottom of the ladder by Charlotte on the way out of the door to the main roster, this loss just sets her right back to square one in my eyes. Asuka punked out Emma post-match so there’s not going to be a rematch that’s going to remedy the embarrassment that Dana Brooke suffered here. One could argue that she’s a heel and heels are supposed to be humiliated, but in Dana’s case, this was more than humiliation. It seemed like WWE was “humbling” her with a match against an opponent like this. Asuka went out of her way to humiliate her gimmick and character and dominate Dana in every aspect of the match.

Emma got punked out quicker than guys scared of Deebo on Friday...
(Laughs) Even I’ll admit that Dana’s had that coming for MONTHS now though… I bet Devin was watching that match backstage with a bag of popcorn.

Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Asuka goes on as a dominant heel going forward, while the pairing of Emma and Dana Brooke is left on the sidelines for the time being.

Apollo Crews def. Tyler Breeze

This was the second match that I wasn’t too crazy about having established talent thrown underneath the bus against a newcomer. Tyler Breeze NEVER seems to get a break in these Takeover events and I would love to see him win at least once for crying out loud. To say that NXT were heavily invested in this guys’ character at one point, only to have him lose again and again is really making me question what does NXT have planned for Breeze in the long-term. This guy is constantly being shafted when it comes to being the next guy to challenge for the NXT title.

If WWE aren't going to use the guy to his full potential, I humbly suggest pairing Breeze with Dolph Ziggler and go for Midnight Rockers 2.0.

As for Apollo Crews, he's an amazing athlete so I don't want to sell the guy short but I feel like WWE is pushing him too fast too soon. I don't want to see him end up like how Big E was after his stellar NXT run. As much as people may love the New Day right now, I seriously doubt that WWE has ANY aspirations to allow any member of that faction challenge for the gold. We all know how WWE treats their black wrestlers by now...

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals – NXT Champion Finn Balor & Samoa Joe def. Baron Corbin & Rhyno to win the tournament

The entire match revolved around Finn's half-selling of the "injury" that he suffered in the first match until he was able to get the hot tag to Samoa Joe. I felt like this was deja vu from the first matches from both teams as they recycled a lot of the same spots, i.e. the Black Hole Slam counter by Corbin, Joe coming in off the hot tag and cleaning house with the Powerslam, Running Senton, and Corner Chokeslam signatures, then Rhyno getting that desperation Gore off during the "go-home" sequence of the finish.

I don't want to complain about Finn and Joe winning but it seemed like the dynamic and drama was lost by this point - at least for me it was that way. Hell, I was still in a sour mood after Jordan and Gable were wrongly eliminated from this tournament. Would it have killed them to at least book at least ONE legitimate tag team instead of two slapped together last-second additions for this thing that are going to split up the second this tournament is over?

Lord forgive me but that trophy looks as stupid as the Ultimate
Warrior Award statue at WrestleMania this year...
Then the celebration seemed a bit bittersweet as there wasn't any turns of teams dissolving like everyone was expecting that would happen. Baron Corbin and Rhyno didn't seem too upset over the win, which was rather strange that they openly stated that they were merely paired up just out of circumstances of that tournament. It was even stranger for the winners as there was no heel turn from neither Finn Balor nor Samoa Joe either. Instead, Samoa Joe and Finn Balor were all smiles and hugs after winning the tournament.

On a positive note, that was a powerful speech by Cody Rhodes on behalf of his late father and I'm proud to be a member of the Rhodes family, even if it was just for that shared moment like this.

30 Minute Ironman Match for NXT Women’s Championship – Bayley def. Sasha Banks 3 to 2 to retain the title

When I posted my predictions for this show on social media prior to the event, I had little faith that this match would surpass their bout at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn two months ago and I have to admit that I was correct. In that match there was a lot more drama to behold in that match, but here the match merely chugged along with a lot of bad spots and miscues/awful timing, but it wasn't a complete flop. Both Bayley and Sasha Banks are talented workers and play off brilliantly off of each other in-ring, but wrestling for 30 minutes didn't seem to do them for any favors.

So much for the training montage when their endurance was cut in half here. Where it took them roughly 18 minutes to score a single pinfall on each other at Brooklyn, it took less than 10 minutes to pinfalls on each other during this event.

I have to mention the crowd at this point and say that bringing the Takeover special back to Full Sail University didn't do them any favors in my eyes as the chants were distracting to the match itself. We get it, you’re excited and want to express your excitement for the ladies of NXT getting an opportunity this big, but sometimes the Japanese approach to wrestling fandom is the appropriate one where you SHUT THE FUCK UP and enjoy the awesomeness in silence and out of respect.

Sasha Banks... making her haters cry, one kid at a time.
My favorite part of the match was when Sasha took it onto herself to get a massive amount of heel heat by making Bayley's #1 fan in the front row start crying. WWE were cold-blooded to keep recording the kid's reactions throughout the match as that just tossed more fuel on the fire of Sasha's red-hot heel antics. I tip my hat to Sasha Banks for acting like a proper heel in a match like this. A LOT of WWE's so-called heels tend to forget that they are supposed to be trying to getting booed instead of cheered.

The final fall came down to the wire where Bayley locked in what looked like a variation of Perry Saturn's Rings of Saturn submission hold, which forced Sasha Banks to submit (well it wasn't really clear with the bad camera angle...) with 3 seconds left on the clock to allow Bayley to retain. Cool, but I felt that they tried to replicate the Bret Hart versus Shawn Michaels dynamic enough here from the multiple rest holds during the early phase of the match to the array of submissions thrown around left and right during the final moments.

Closing Thoughts

I'll agree with most critics and say that this event was miles above and beyond what we've been given on Monday Night RAW and Friday Thursday Night Smackdown! over the last few months. Seriously, that's not really saying much though. The Dusty Classic garnered some excitement while NXT's newest additions definitely made an impact tonight and Sasha and Bayley delivered on a main event platform.

You would think that Sasha was going into the Hall of Fame after this post-match
celebration. I know Lita's going like damn...
Did I think that the flowers and post-match celebration with the ENTIRE roster, staff, and crew applauding from the entrance ramp was necessary? No, I felt that was a little overboard, especially after Sasha, along with Charlotte, Bayley, and Becky Lynch, killed kayfabe at Takeover: Brooklyn when they celebrated in the ring post-match. So I'm supposed to just ignore all of that and act like you two have a "heated" rivalry again? Sorry, but you single-handedly killed the dynamic that made the match at Brooklyn so great with that. If they wanted to congratulate and celebrate with the Divas on their triumph moment on a main event platform they could have done this backstage and off-camera (or even film it for one of those wonderful WWE:24 specials on the WWE Network) keep kayfabe alive for those of us who like to be caught up in the characters. Don't get me wrong, I applaud the ladies for their achievement here at this level, but with the women completely breaking character afterwards is making the product look bad as a whole if I'm being perfectly honest.

How can WWE expect their viewers to get invested in their product when their wrestlers can't even keep invested in playing these characters themselves? Is this supposed to be the main draw of this "Reality Era" of WWE, that we as fans are supposed to be content with heel and face ailments have no weight whatsoever?

Impact Wrestling Presents Bound For Glory 2015 -- Results & Afterthoughts

Despite the potential hurricane on the horizon and flooding throughout the Carolinas, Impact Wrestling held their annual Bound for Glory event on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from Charlotte, North Carolina. Many fans believe that this could potentially be the last Impact Wrestling Pay-Per-View event. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best, right?

Ultimate X Match for X-Division Championship – Tigre Uno def. DJ Zema Ion, Manik, and Andrew Everett to retain the title

Great opening match with a ton of exciting spots to get fans invested for the rest of the show. Everyone busted their asses off in this match. I’m glad that they are using Tigre Uno to legitimize the X-Division again. This division doesn’t need to be on the back burner, it should be at the forefront of TNA programming if they want to regain their former glory in the eyes of wrestling fans.

To the snarky wrestling fans on Twitter who had something to whine about that the match started without a bell, I have a question for you - why watch Impact Wrestling or any wrestling PERIOD if the only thing you're going to do is fucking complain about it. Fans like you are the eye sores of professional wrestling and why the state of the sport is in the mess that it is in currently anyway.

A hurricane swept through the Carolinas last weekend in more ways than one...
Of course, there were people who had something to complain about Gregory Helms showing up too after the match. Sure, the guy works backstage at TNA now and I didn't see it as a way to shoehorn himself into the show. He is a Carolina native as well, much like the Hardy Boys, plus it was a nice "endorsement" to the current X-Division champion to have the longest reigning Cruiserweight champion in history promote the reigning X-Division champion for a job well done tonight.

Bound for Gold Match – Tyrus wins the opportunity to challenge for ANY TNA title in the near-future. Tyrus openly expresses that he’s going for the World title to the dismay of EC3.

For those who don’t know, this was TNA’s version of the Royal Rumble. I was thoroughly entertained with this match as it had everything that I miss from mainstream wrestling – some LIGHT comedy (thank you Pope/D’Angelo Dinero for that hilarious moment, along with everyone doing the Shera Shuffle at one point of the match), a small bit of nostalgia, and most importantly, great wrestling.

The Shera "Super" Shuffle?
TNA did a great series of teases with potential feuds here as I wouldn’t mind an Abyss vs. Tyrus feud or Jesse Godderz vs. Mr. Anderson (especially since he has a knack for putting young, newer guys over) feud.

By the way, that new O'Shea character is just Jay Bradley with a new gimmick as a wannabe Sheamus.

TNA Tag Team Championship Match – The Wolves def. Brian Myers & Trevor Lee to retain the titles

Brian Myers was formerly Curt Hawkins from WWE while Trever Lee is one of the Hardyz’ students. The Wolves and the team of Myers/Lee have been feuding for weeks building up to this event as part of the “invasion” of Global Force Wrestling and serves as the last remnant of that feud, whether you loved or hated it.

The Wolves are definitely one of the best tag teams in wrestling today and definitely the best TNA has to offer nowadays after most of the other teams have split up or departed (Dirty Heels, the Hardyz, Team 3D, etc.) but Myers/Lee definitely pull their weight in this match as well. This is another exciting match to watch with a lot of false finishes to keep you on the edge of your seats from start to finish.

TNA King of the Mountain Championship Match – Bobby Roode def. Bobby Lashley to retain

I’m glad that these two guys had another opportunity to work with each other as I loved their feud over the World title last year. Roode never got the chance to bounce back from that lost to Lashley when he was steamrolling through everyone that the TNA roster threw at him (like a full-time version of WWE’s returning Brock Lesnar last year). These two have natural chemistry with each other, so you really can’t go wrong here. The exchange near the end of the match which saw Lashley and Roode using each other’s finishers was a little reminiscent of WWE Vengeance 2002, but it just seems like there’s a lot of people “copying” their opponents’ finishers just to be doing it. Before that used to be a rare treat and now it seems like everyone in mainstream wrestling is doing it just for cheap pops. Here, I’m guessing that they wanted that extra “umph” to add to the finale here but the dynamic of them settling the score was more than enough for me. Regardless, this was another solid match on the card.

TNA Knockouts Championship Match – Gail Kim def. Awesome Kong to retain

I was a little disappointed with this one. Awesome Kong dominated Gail Kim for the bulk of the match until the action poured out to ringside, where Gail’s husband (Robert Irvine) got involved. That was a sick spot with the Implant Buster onto the steel chairs at ringside. Somehow, Gail manages to turn it around into a victory to retain the title - via a roll-up. I was expecting Gail and Kong to tear the house down after seeing the NXT Divas emulate the Knockouts’ style over the last two years.

Stick to Restaurant: Impossible, Robert. This is one fight you're NOT
going to win...
Am I the only one who was surprised that they didn’t do anything with the Dollhouse and the Beautiful People on this show or did they already resolve that feud prior to this event?

Kurt Angle def. Eric Young

This was Kurt’s first match back in the company after his neck surgery and I have to admit that I was fearing for Kurt’s well-being after all of the Piledriver spots and trauma to his neck.

EY just killed Kurt, folks.
To those hoping for a WWE return for Kurt, well you’re going to be disappointed. It looks like Kurt doesn’t have much left in the tank but then again, I thought the same thing of Sting when he was wrestling his last few matches for Impact Wrestling before popping up in WWE, so who knows. EY played his cards well as the villain here, but ultimately Kurt came out on top, fighting through the pain and agony like a true “Real American Hero”.

Triple Threat Match for TNA World Heavyweight Championship w/ Special Guest Referee: Jeff Hardy – Matt Hardy def. Ethan Carter III and Drew Galloway to become the NEW champion

This wasn't a bad match at all, but I felt it was a little in bad taste to have Matt Hardy pick up the win here after EC3 has been playing his card as one of (if not the best) pure heels in wrestling today. At least Matt pinning Galloway made sense as that finish kept EC3's undefeated streak intact. I don't think that the loss is going to hurt Drew Galloway as he has a knack for bouncing back from whatever obstacle gets thrown in his way, from the fallout of the Rising vs. Beatdown Clan feud to being the last man standing in the war of Impact Wrestling vs. Global Force Wrestling. I suppose TNA wanted to have Matt Hardy win in the Carolinas to cater to the natives in the crowd, but it would've given EC3 more heel heat to go over their "hero" despite the odds stacked up against him.

Even Baby Maxel was choked up at the moment after seeing his daddy
win the title...
Matt Hardy winning the gold was a "feel good" moment that was a nice note to end the night on with the Hardy family clan joining the celebration - similar to how WWE tends to love sending everyone home at WrestleMania with a "happy" ending for the fans.

Closing Thoughts

There wasn’t not a single bad match on this PPV – no stupid finishes (other than the questionable roll-up finish to the Knockouts title match), no random interference, no bullshit. I’m still pretty bummed out that I didn’t get to attend the show live and in person, despite having bought tickets but I trapped in South Carolina with the flooding over the past weekend. I was glad to see that TNA managed to get a decent sized crowd for this event that was into the show from start to finish. If TNA keeps this up, maybe – just maybe they can bring people back into watching their product regularly instead of being the butt end of almost every wrestling fans’ jokes.

REVIEW -- CW's The Flash (TV Series) - Season 2 Premiere: "The Man Who Saved Central City"

On Tuesday, October 4, 2015, The Flash premiered its second season on the CW Network. This episode picks up where the cliffhanger from the end of the first season left off with Barry Allen/The Flash racing off to save Central City from being swallowed up by a monstrous black hole. This episode also serves as the official debut of Atom-Smasher to the Arrowverse as former WWE Superstar Edge/Adam Copeland portrays the character in this episode.

Plot: (FULL Spoilers - Credit from Comicbook.com)

The episode opens on The Flash battling Captain Cold and Heat Wave. He dispatches the Rogues quickly, with a little last-minute help from Firestorm.

The pair head back to S.T.A.R. Labs, where everyone is delighted by their performance. Iris and Joe are there…but then so is Eddie, and even Wells. He isn’t evil, but he gets out of the wheelchair and praises Barry.

Of course, its’ all in Barry’s imagination. In reality, he’s alone in S.T.A.R. when an alarm goes off and he gets into costume and heads off to work…alone. Along the way, you see signs for Flash Day, celebrating the man who saved Central City.

At a murder scene, Barry meets Joe. Al Rothstein has been murdered. He’s a welder at the nuclear plant, and it looks like he was strangled by someone very strong and very large — but Barry’s sure it wasn’t Grodd.

Joe asks Barry if he’s going to go to Flash Day, where the mayor wants to give him a key to the city, but Barry is reluctant, suggesting he doesn’t deserve it.

Behind a wall, a mysterious man takes a photo of Barry.

At Central City PD, Cisco is helping Joe put together tech for a task force to take down metahumans. Try as he might, though, he can’t convince Captain Singh to give him a badge.

After the Captain leaves, Cisco and Joe talk about how weird Barry is being, and Joe suggests that Iris should talk him into going to Flash Day.

That night, Barry is using his super-speed to rebuild Jitters, one of a number roof local businesses damaged during the singularity event. This is something he’s been doing a lot, as Iris has heard about it and figured it out. She tells him that even though Eddie had to sacrifice that day, Barry was still a hero, and he should go to the event. She says she believes in The Flash.

Cut to a flashback, when Barry manages to stabilize the singularity but can’t close it. Professor Stein tells Ronnie that the only way to save the world is for Firestorm to fly up into the eye of the singularity and separate. Ronnie kisses Caitlin, saying he has to try, and then Firestorm merges, flies up and separates. On his way down from the Singularity, Barry manages to rescue Professor Stein but can’t see Ronnie anywhere. Both Caitlin and Stein look around for him, but all Barry can do is tell them he’s sorry.

At the Flash Day event, Cisco is surprised to see Caitlin. The mayor presents the key to the city to an (absent) Flash, with Barry showing up a little late. Shortly after he does, a man shows up and starts throwing large objects around. Cisco tries to use his “boot” on the metahuman, but the masked man just grows out of it, breaking the device. Before he does, though, Cisco has a quick vision of the villain standing in a large room with blue lightning around him.

Barry and Joe manage to turn the man back, but not stop or capture him. Before he goes, though, he briefly unmasks and Joe recognizes him as Al Rothstein.

After Rothstein makes his escape, Cisco confirms that the body remains in the coroner’s office — and that he wasn’t even in town when the particle accelerator went off.

Iris comes to ask Cisco whether anything he did might have taken out a number of machines at the hospital nearby where the fight happened. Cisco leaves to be sure he didn’t do it, and Iris tells Joe that they need to stop letting Barry push them away.

Cisco goes to visit Caitlin at her new job at Mercury Labs; he wants her to rejoin Team Flash, but she’s not up for it. He asks her instead to at least look at some evidence from the murder scene of Al Rothstein — an ID badge that appears to have no data on it.

At the police department, a lawyer comes to see Barry. He gives him a thumb drive with a video message from Dr. Wells, and says that Barry will lose S.T.A.R. (which was willed to him by Wells) if he doesn’t watch it. Barry says he won’t, and the lawyer leaves. An alarm goes off at S.T.A.R., attracting Barry. Iris, Stein and Cisco are there figuring out how the villain’s power works when Stein names the baddie Atom-Smasher.

The team uses traces ofradiactive energy to find Atom-Smasher. Barry suits up and heads out, leaving his communicator behind so they can’t reach him.

At the building where they expected to find Atom-Smasher, there he is — soaking in radiation from barrels of waste. Flash asks why he killed Rothstein, and why he looks like him, and Atom-Smasher tells him he wouldn’t believe him. The two fight briefly and when Barry starts to lose, Cisco manages to hack into the building’s systems and create a diversion to get Barry away.

He runs to S.T.A.R. and collapses, where he dreams about his childhood. Joe tries to get Barry to eat, and to deal with his emotions in a productive way. The two hug.

When Barry regains consciousness, Joe is there. He tells Barry that he needs to stop blaming himself for what happened — that everything that happened was Wells’ doing, and that both Eddie and Ronnie understood the choices they were making to help. He tells Barry that he needs to focus his late-night rebuilding on things that matter.

Barry heads to Mercury Labs to see Caitlin; they have a brief conversation, and Caitlin reinforces that Barry is a hero, that she doesn’t blame him for Ronnie’s death. She blames herself for not going away with him months before, when he wanted to. She couldn’t be around S.T.A.R. because those memories tortured her. Barry pulls out a handkerchief for her when she starts to cry and the jump drive of Wells’ message falls out. They decide to watch it together so they can face it.

On the message, Wells, tells Barry that he’s going to give him what he wants, but it won’t matter because Barry is never really happy. He gives Barry a video confession that he killed Nora Allen.

Barry calls Joe and tells him to assemble Team Flash at S.T.A.R. Shortly after that, Joe is on the phone with the district attorney, who thinks it’s enough to get Henry out of jail.

Barry turns to the team, asking them how to deal with Atom-Smasher. Caitlin suggests they try to overload Atom-Smasher with radiation.

In order to lure him out, Team Flash shines a Bat Signal-style light against the clouds. Barry runs and Atom-Smasher chases; eventually they come to a facility where Barry lures Atom-Smasher into a radiation chamber and then blows past him and out of the reactor core as Cisco fills it. Atom-Smasher can’t absorb all the radiation and eventually collapses, now at normal size. Barry goes in  to check on him, apologizing for the seemingly-lethal force, and Atom-Smasher tells him that someone named Zoom had sent him after Barry, promising to let him go home if he killed The Flash. He succumbs to the radiation.

At Iron Heights, Barry walks Henry to the car; his father is a free man. They head home, where Team Flash is having a welcome home party for Henry. Cisco even gets his honorary badge, before Stein makes a touching toast.

The joy is short-lived as Henry tells Barry he plans to leave town rather than trying to resume his life in Central City. He says that Team Flash needs Barry and the city needs The Flash, not Henry Allen’s son.

Back at S.T.A.R. the next day, Barry has put Henry on a train and comes to check in with the team. Cisco has upgraded the suit and Caitlin brags about the new security system and the fact that people will finally stop dropping in unexpectedly…which is proven wrong immediately when a man calling himself Jay Garrick arrives to tell Barry “your world is in danger.”

The Verdict:

First things first - welcome back Flash. I think they've made fans wait long enough for Season 2 when Arrow has already started it's new season a few weeks ago. I don't dick-ride off of everything the CW does with DC Comics' characters, nor am I overly excited about Gotham nor Supergirl (especially if you've read my review on the pilot for that...), but the charm of this show hooked me enough to draw me back in for Season 2. I have my fingers crossed that the writing doesn't deteriorate like how Smallville did in later seasons, but I guess we'll have to wait and see don't we?

We start this episode off with a fun, action-packed romp between Captain Cold and Heat Wave trying to kill the Flash, only for Firestorm to help out at the last second to put an end to their piss poor attempt to stop the Scarlet Speedster. Things quickly switch back to present day (approximately 6 months after the finale of last season) where we're stuck with an angst-filled Barry Allen, moping around and fighting crime on his own without the aid of "Team Flash" - claiming that he doesn't want to endanger the well-being of his loved ones with his crime-fighting. Yeah, we've been here before, haven't we?

Central City is having Flash Day and Barry's not in a celebrating mood. Watching this I felt like I was watching a Bizarro World version of Spider-Man 3 (Sam Raimi version) where they were celebrating Spider-Man but Peter's loved ones (namely Mary Jane) wasn't into it. In this version, Barry's playing the part of the buzzkill. To be fair, Barry's got a good reason to be down in the dumps as he blames Ronnie's death (or what we're thought to believe as his demise...) on himself during the black hole event during the finale that was conveniently explained in a short flashback. To be honest, I think the only reason that they had Ronnie be written off as "dead" was to act as the catalyst to drive Caitlin Snow to become Killer Frost later in the series. The writers are making that a little TOO predictable in the foretelling with this show, especially after the teaser of her in full costume as Killer Frost during the Season 1 finale as well as dropping hints that Cisco will become Vibe at some point too.

Cool, it's good to see that DC kept some of those extra Bane outfits from
Batman & Robin laying around...

The celebration ends up having more than one buzzkills, with the second being Atomsmasher, played by former WWE Superstar, "Rated R Superstar" Edge/Adam Copeland. I made some people upset on social media when I said that he looked fucking stupid in costume. I'm not kidding. They made him look as lame as Bane in the Batman & Robin film. Once again, I don't dick-ride off of the CW's costume designs for these superhero TV dramas as I personally see their work is hit-or-miss at best in my eyes and this one was a major miss.

What pissed me off more about Atomsmasher being in this premiere episode was that he was a disposable "villain of the week" character that continues the trend of changing villains weekly like a pair of socks. I'm dying to wonder when people are going to get sick of this Power Rangers-esque style writing for these superhero dramas, especially from DC Comics (Josh Whedon was good for this when he was doing Buffy and Angel regularly too...), where you have the Scooby Doo gang (Team Flash, Team Arrow, and I'm sure that Supergirl is going to have her own support group as well...) that acts as the "support group" for the token hero (or heroine) that helps the hero along with their ongoing angst and trauma with dealing with having powers and special abilities, all while the token "villain of the week" shows up to ruin their day and everything is smiles and ice cream after they are disposed of. Wake up, people, you're literally watching an adult/mature edition of Power Rangers with slightly better special effects and costumes. Well, not so much better special effects on this episode when it came to Atomsmasher's powers as that looked as bad as the Supergirl pilot.

The entire episode is more focused on Barry's personal melodrama than Atomsmasher's motivations and backstory. In the end, we're left with the clue of "Zoom" was the one who sent him to kill the Flash before Atomsmasher's untimely demise.

Spoiler alert - Eobard Thawne isn't dead as we thought. Professor Zoom is another name for the Reverse Flash. I'm sure what Eddie Thawne did to erase Eobard Thawne from existence did nothing but create a time paradox due to their tampering with time travel and alternate timelines/realities from Season 1, so I'm guessing that Eobard still exists in another reality who still wants the Flash or rather ALL users of the Speed Force (wait I'm getting to that...) dead. I came to this conclusion after noticing that Cisco is still suffering the effects of the "bleeding effect" from seeing events from other timelines/realities. This could be an after-effect of Cisco's "powers" manifesting as his abilities are known in the DC Comics universe as one of the only major threats to the Speed Force, so there's that too to consider.

Now while we're talking about users of the Speed Force, I bet you're wondering who is that Jay Garrick character who showed up at Star Labs at the end of the episode. Garrick is the "original" Flash that was created by DC Comics, but Barry Allen is always the more "popular" one as Garrick was written off out of continuity or killed off on multiple occasions. I'm anxious to see what they are going to do with him in this season, but I wouldn't be surprised that this leads into adventures into alternate realities and what not.

Watch it or Don't Bother?

Fans of the first season don't have to be told to check this out, but as for sticking around for the long haul? That's up in the air, but there's nothing really bad that stinks to high hell on this premiere. I merely had a lot to rant about in terms of writing and how this stuff was presented. Sue me, I'm a bit more nit-picky on this superhero stuff than most people.

I want more backstory on Atomsmasher here, but whatever... I do appreciate how they laid out everything for the rest of the season with the foreshadowing of things to come and hints scattered around here and there. I just hope and fear that this isn't as predictable and bloody obvious as most of what was presented in the first season.

WWE Night of Champions 2015 -- Results & Afterthoughts

WWE held Night of Champions on September 20, 2015, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, exclusively on the WWE Network. For this write-up, we're going to try something new for this event on the approach on this article. Since my partner-in-crime and padawan learner on wrestling knowledge, Serena, watched the event with me that night, we decided to tackle this article together since we were already discussing it afterwards.

Kickoff: 6-Man Tag Team Match
Astral Alliance (Stardust & The Ascension) def. Lucha Dragons

ZX: Nothing really shocking pretty much the run of the mill stuff from what you'd expect on RAW/SD from this match. I was just glad to see the Ascension pick up some steam for once. I never liked those guys even during their NXT run but I think them being Stardust's henchmen like the campy superhero villain that he is works for them.

Serena: I didn't have the chance to see the pre-show live, but I still have an opinion about the "Cosmic Wasteland" and now renamed as the "Astral Alliance". I think Cody Rhodes shines is brightest as Stardust. You can see how much he enjoys crafting this way out there comic book villain, not only with his grade A cheese promos, but with his mannerisms and look as well. The addition of the Ascension not only gives the former NXT Tag Team Champs a chance to do something away from the title picture, but also adds another stroke in the portrait of the evil and diabolical Stardust.

Intercontinental Championship Match - Kevin Owens def. Ryback (c)

ZX: No offense to Ryback, but I felt that they just tossed Owens into the feud without even thinking about it. WWE could have easily thrown Cesaro in this match as well as I felt that the Owens/Cesaro feud wasn't quite done. At the same time, the absence of Miz in this match was strange as well when it seemed like he was still in the IC title hunt as well.

As for the match itself, it wasn't bad in the least. Owens showed exactly why he's one of the best natural heels in WWE today and started the trend (at least in these opening matches) of strong match psychology by working Ryback's arm to take his "power game" out of the equation. The finish was a tad sloppy though. If it were up to me, I would have had Ryback retain here to look strong but drop the title to Owens on RAW tomorrow night.

Serena: Before the match officially started I had this hunch that Ryback's reign wouldn't be lasting that much longer. Chatting with ZX via Facebook, both of us agreed that he will lose the title at the PPV or the next day on Raw. This reign was somewhat underwhelming, mostly because the champ was injured and battling a staph infection for a good chunk of it. WWE needed to inject some life after that not too exciting triple feud with Big Show and the Miz... Cue in Owens. A brawl between two big guys, Owens smarts in the ring and Ryback's likability turned into this oddly short match, with no really interesting spots and a screwy finish. In my eyes, this loss might have been too soon in the feud as Owens announced his interest in the title only a few weeks ago. I still hope that Ryback will get another proper title reign in the future as the guy can really grow on you over time.

That said, I think that this might be a good set up to continue the feud between Owens and Cesaro, since they work so well off each other and both have clearly defined heel and face qualities. The midcard is in desperate need of a good, quality feud.

Who knows, they might be planning a lengthy Cena/Cesaro program for the US title?

That would be something I would like to see. Those open challenge matches between Cena and Cesaro were truly captivating and The Swiss Superman is another guy who can bring out the best in Big Match John.

Dolph Ziggler def. Rusev (w/ Summer Rae)

ZX: You guys know that I've been losing interest in this feud after the lack of Lana after her injury. All jokes aside, this match wasn't doing anything for me. From Summer Rae's cheap imitation of Lana to Dolph Ziggler doing his best tribute to Rick Rude and Scott Steiner's antics with his Lana-themed ring gear with the sprinkle of HBK's flair, there wasn't much to write home about in this match. As much as we want this feud to end, I doubt they are going to end it until Lana recovers from her injury. At least Summer found a way to succeed with her high heels where Layla couldn't.

For those who don't get the joke, go back and watch Survivor Series 2008 where Layla throws her shoe at CM Punk after Regal gets eliminated.

I don't know why they pulled the "hurt from falling in the ring" spot where we ALL know Summer takes bumps for a living so that was going on deaf ears in terms of sympathy. We need more referees like the guy in this match though. That guy had catlike reflexes to dodge that shoe in point-blank range like that.

Serena: Usually I would say that I have a problem with a certain gimmick or feud... Nope, this time I can say with the utmost confidence. I absolutely hate and despise this feud from the very beginning. Not only did they bury a great heel manager (not a valet, but truly, a brilliant manager), but they also keep creatively killing Dolph Ziggler, who is one of the most underrated performers in the company. So, you have to understand that when I saw that this match is next I just wanted to get it over it. And... Well... There is not much to really say about it. Dolph debuted new ring gear, which looked like something stolen from the Hart Family (I bet it's the color scheme) and had Lana's face on the crotch... Odd placement. Summer Rae was up to her usual shenanigans, interfering into Ru Ru's match and both Rusev and Dolph put up a fairly decent bout.
I can only agree with Z that there was nothing to write home about. Performance wise the match was fine, but the thing that kills it is that god awful storyline. And to my disappointment, I doesn't look like these wrestlers will be put out of their misery any time soon.

WWE Tag Team Championship Match - The New Day (c) def. The Dudley Boyz

Serena: I know that New Day is probably the hottest tag team around as of the present time. And I have to say that they definitely deserve the praise. Xavier Woods, Big E and Kofi Kingston are great fellas, skilled in-ring performers and have an insane amount of charisma. Their promos are natural and fluid and most of the times you are a 100% certain that they are improvising and this is all them. Kudos, for the creative liberties they have.

But... I do think that sometimes too much is not entertaining, but is just that... Too much. Some of their antics are weird, some of them are kooky, some of them end up being hilarious, but most of the time I end up wanting for them to pull back just a bit, just slightly. And the match against The Dudley's was exactly that. Way too much. That excruciating trombone, quick changes between the wrestlers, Xavier yelling... All of this seemed more like noise than a wrestling match. And I know that people will hate me for this. But hey, an opinion is an opinion.

I do think that the outcome of the match was fair, since there is still so much unresolved between the New Looney Tunes and The Dudley's and title changes two PPV's in a row didn't seem as good for business. Although, I have to say that Big E yelling "Woods! Get the tables!" was probably my personal highlight of the match.

ZX: I'm with you on how I'm not on board with the New Day as I think Kofi, Woods, and Big E are far too talented to be reducing themselves to the stupidity that comes with this gimmick. That being said, it was revealed on Table for 3 on the WWE Network that they are slowly given more liberties with this gimmick than what they had when it first started, so bravo to them getting to be themselves, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

Their antics are more misses than hits to me and I think the trombone antics are more disrespectful to the match itself than trying to get cheap pops in instead of actually encouraging the athleticism and competition. You could tell Bully Ray Bubba Ray Dudley was clearly pissed off on the ring apron as he wasn't for playing the trombone in the match no matter how over the New Day are.

As for the match itself, it wasn't bad, but I was glad that the Dudley Boys didn't win the titles on their first PPV appearance back in the company. They need to be in the chase for a bit longer for it to matter when they win.

Divas Championship - Charlotte def. Nikki Bella (c)

Serena: I was quite interested to see how this one would turn out. Nikki was generating a stellar response as the cheating and malicious heel and the screwed over Charlotte together with her dad by her side seemed like a real tearjerker. And after seeing the entire match go underway, I have to say this went nothing like I expected. The "Genetically Superior" Charlotte always comes off as very physically strong and easily dominating. At "Night of Champions" Nikki wiped the floor with Flair (Get it? Get it?). Honestly, the longest reigning Divas Champion looked like a million bucks. She not only looked strong physically and very in tune with her surroundings (especially her reaction when Brie and Foxy tried to pull on the ropes), but Nikki also came off as a smart and scheming heel. For the crap that she gets, tonight one half of the Bella Twins proved why she was a Divas champion.

As for Charlotte. I'm happy with the title change, fun to see Ric Flair so proud of his baby girl, but she definitely didn't shine in this bout and her win, with a match that lasted around 14 minutes, was awfully rushed. Yet, deep down, I know that she is really good and I am hoping to see some entertaining title defenses. Maybe this so-called Divas Revolution will finally start looking like one.

ZX: For all of the crap that Nikki Bella gets from fans, she has to be proud of her performance tonight. Nikki carried Charlotte from start to finish of this match, working like a methodical heel by targeting her legs in a multitude of ways. Nikki definitely proved why she was the longest reigning Divas Champion wasn't a fluke in the least and displayed a show of force in this match. As for the lack of respect for what Nikki and ALL of the WWE Divas are doing to make strides to make this Revolution, I'm not going to mention it here but in a full blown article at a later date.

Anyone who reads my live tweets during RAW and NXT know that I'm not the biggest fan of Charlotte's ring work but she looked solid here. The rebellious fans of the Divas Revolution wanted a new champion on the top of the mountain and now they got it. I'm anxious to see how Charlotte adapts to this new role within the Revolution. Many fans are demanding more from this revolution and the blame is going to fall into her lap if things turn sour if the Divas don't continue to bring it in these matches.

If I had a problem with the match itself it was with the finish. Charlotte rushed the comeback phase. She no sold her legs being worked by Nikki and hit the Spear and applied the Figure Eight without any problems. I would have had Charlotte drop to the canvas in pain from Nikki working her legs to stop the Figure Eight prematurely, then build up to another exchange that ends with the Natural Selection for the win. The ending seemed rushed just to have time to have Ric Flair run down to the ring, fake some more tears and rehash the "emotional" celebration from RAW a few days prior.

The Wyatt Family def. Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, and Chris Jericho

Serena: If to be quite honest, there is not that much I can say about this match. The main catch here was to find out who will be the mystery team member. Since I was out of the wrestling loop for a number of years, I didn't really knew about the animosity between Jericho and Bray, but when I read that he might be a contender, it honestly made sense. So, I spoiled myself out of a surprise. The saving grace to this okay match was in my opinion the very end. WWE managed not to shoot themselves in the foot by letting a rarely on TV seen Legend win and then disappear once more. They booked the newcomer Strawman as a terrifying threat, who can't be stopped. And that was one of the best decisions as of late.

Yet, the way Chris Jericho left the ring left me somewhat confused. Does this mean that Y2J is coming back to regular programming at least for a short period of time?

ZX: I like Chris Jericho as much as the next person, but him being the third man for Team "Wannabe Shield Reunion" was a bit of a buzzkill. We've seen these tag team matches between the non-Shield and Wyatt Family members so many times on RAW and Smackdown! over the last few weeks that I was up to the point where I didn't care either way, but I felt that the Wyatt Family needed the win more than the Shield boys.

Fortunately, things played out well with some common sense booking. Jericho took the loss while Ambrose and Reigns still look strong and the Wyatt Family establishes a much-needed swing of momentum after their new addition. Why Bray Wyatt hasn't held not a single solo title in his career to date is a complete mystery to me. WWE is at the point where they have a lack of strong main event caliber guys and they have guys like Bray Wyatt, Cesaro, and Dolph Ziggler doing nothing to put them in a better limelight with the fans.

Jericho blowing off the team post-match was a nice touch as I wouldn't mind a Jericho vs. Ambrose feud.

United States Championship Match - John Cena def. Seth Rollins (c)

Serena: Yes, the internet can hate me for this one, but from the beginning I was a big Cena fan and will probably respect and admire the man till the day he retires. I honestly think that people tend to ignore how much of a great worker he is. And tonight was no different. 2015 is the year when Cena solidified the moniker "Big Match John". His bouts with both Owens and Rollins were something stellar. And this match was no different. Seth did do a very good job, as he always does, although did seem to have some little bits off here and there. The only thing that was a problem that the match did have a lot of the same spots as their match at Summerslam. But I think what stood out for me was the perfectly executed Tornado DDT by John. I know that I should have a lot more to say about a co-main event. But, if to be quite honest, everything seemed pretty predictable. Seth Rollins had the two titles belts to validate him as champion and now it is time to give it back to the person that did do something really fun and interesting with it.

And I know that there weren't that many people that liked the end, where John AA'ed Rollins outside of the ring.... But weren't you the ones who keep moaning that Cena should turn heel?

ZX: I'll start off answering your question, Serena. The internet smart marks want Cena to go heel but at the same time don't understand that he's WWE's poster boy and boy scout. Until they build someone else up to that level, a turn at this point would be damaging to what he represents to the kids. Of course the older fans hate him and can list a hundred and one reasons why they hate the guy, but I'm at the point where I'm like you and I have come to respect what Cena represents and what he brings to the table on the landscape of the WWE Universe.

Cena's AA on the floor was merely "punishing" the cowardly, chicken-shit heel who was looking for the easy way out instead of having to face his next opponent like a man. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't get why people were getting butthurt about that act like Cena was teasing a heel turn or something. Instead, WWE should be worried about portraying Seth Rollins too much like a babyface with this "vulnerable" booking. I understand that they want to make him seem like a "beatable" heel but it's coming off like he's an underdog babyface in his last few matches, especially here facing against Cena and Sting in one night and even more so when he faced Brock Lesnar two months ago.

The match felt like the same thing we've seen on RAW and at Summerslam last month, which didn't help that Seth Rollins was dressed like the White Mighty Morphin' Power Ranger yet again. WWE might want to be careful about booking Rollins vs. Cena matches too much or it will become the new Orton vs. Cena matches that people will dread watching in another year or two - even sooner at the rate that WWE is going.

If I was Rollins I would look into making that Vertical Suplex from the top rope to the deadlift Falcon Arrow one of his signature moves or something. That combination is too good to have guys kicking out of left and right. I would have Rollins bust that out on guys in the lower card and season the fans that there's a possibility that Rollins could end a match with that thing. While we're talking about finishers, I would axe using the Pedigree too and possibly make that Phoenix Splash into Rollins' new finisher. He could easily make the Turnbuckle Powerbomb or the Vertical Suplex/Falcon Arrow combo set the move up.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match - Seth Rollins (c) def. Sting

Serena: Round #2 for the Man. This all had potential. It could have been better than it was. Sting did seem faster on his feet and quicker at his offense and defense than he was with Triple H at Wrestlemania. Rollins, in his typical fashion, was showing us amazing athleticism and worked the crowd. But, the match had to end quick because of Sting hitting against the turnbuckle with the back of his neck as Seth threw him into the corner. We didn't get the usual finisher as it was decided to end the match quick in order to avoid further injury to the veteran and Rollins picked up the win via Small Package. The twist ending with Kane's return....

If to be completely honest, I was slightly confused. I like Kane as any other long time worker for WWE, but I honestly don't see any point for Rollins to feud with The Demon. There are so many great young guys that need to finally get recognized and get a shot at the main event scene. But, following the current tendencies, new PPV = Legend Returns and feuds with Rollins.... Hmmm... The Legend Killer.... I think I've heard it somewhere before.

ZX: When Sting collapsed after trying to duck Rollins' clothesline, I knew something was wrong as you could hear Rollins tell Sting "That was on me, man..." as he dropped Sting awkwardly onto the turnbuckle with the second Turnbuckle Powerbomb. Like Serena said, Sting looked amazing in this match and hasn't looked this good in a match since working with AJ Styles back in Impact Wrestling. He didn't seem winded or slow like he was with Triple H at WrestleMania.

If Sting didn't get hurt, I would have preferred for Rollins to drop the title to him. With two losses in Sting's column in his WWE career thus far, it seems like all of this hype of bringing him into the company was for nothing, especially if this injury is career-ending. The dream match scenario for Sting as champion would either enter a program with a returning Ric Flair and build up that rival again for new audiences since WWE never had that feud over a championship between those two in their company. It would give WWE an excuse to add another title win to Ric Flair's record. Alternatively, they could shuffle guys in and out of the title picture from now to WrestleMania (like Lesnar's part-time status when he was champion) and end with the fan-favorite option of Sting vs. The Undertaker that has been demanded since Sting signed to the company. In the meantime, Rollins and Cena could help add more prestige to the midcard titles help more potential main eventers get their feet wet.

Serena tells me all the time that I should be working creative or booking for WWE, but I say that they wouldn't be able to pay me enough for that job...

As for Masked Kane coming back for the finish, it could work even though I'm not all that crazy about it. Let's just face facts that WWE is in that mode where they are just filling in the gaps between now and WrestleMania season. I'm just getting a sense of deja vu of Armageddon 2006 where Kane and Undertaker were set to main event two high-profile matches on that event's card. Now, roughly a decade later, we are about to witness the same thing as Taker will face Lesnar in a Hell in the Cell match while Kane will (obviously) be facing Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship. I'm positive that if Sheamus does cash in and win with the Money in the Bank briefcase, he's either going to take the title from Kane or a battered and beaten Seth Rollins.
