PREVIEW -- Batman: Soul of the Dragon: Exclusive Official Trailer (2021) - Michael ...

Renowned animation producer Bruce Timm takes the Dark Knight back to the 1970s for a supernatural-laden martial arts extravaganza in Batman: Soul Of The Dragon, the next entry in the popular series of the DC Universe Movies.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC, the feature-length animated film will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Digital starting January 12, 2021, and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack and Blu-ray on January 26, 2021. The film is rated R for some violence.

Set in the midst of the swinging 1970s, this Elseworlds adventure finds Bruce Wayne training under a master sensei. It is here that Bruce, along with other elite students, is forged in the fire of the martial arts discipline. The lifelong bonds they form will be put to the test when a deadly menace arises from their past. It will take the combined efforts of Batman, world-renowned martial artists Richard Dragon, Ben Turner, and Lady Shiva and their mentor O-Sensei to battle the monsters of this world and beyond!

The ensemble cast features a core group of actors playing martial arts students-turned-heroes in David Giuntoli (Grimm, A Million Little Things) as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Mark Dacascos (John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, Iron Chef America, Hawaii Five-0) as Richard Dragon, Kelly Hu (Arrow, X2: X-Men United) as Lady Shiva and Michael Jai White (Spawn, reprising his role from Arrow) as Ben Turner/Bronze Tiger. Their mentor O-Sensei is voiced by James Hong (Big Trouble in Little China, Blade Runner). Josh Keaton (Voltron: Legendary Defender; Green Lantern: The Animated Series) is featured as Jeffrey Burr, and additional voices are provided by veteran Voice Over actors Grey Griffin, Chris Cox, Erica Luttrell, Robin Atkin Downes, Patrick Seitz, Jamie Chung, and Eric Bauza.

Sam Liu (Reign of the Supermen, Batman: The Killing Joke) is Producer and Director of Batman: Soul Of The Dragon, utilizing a script by Jeremy Adams (Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge). Michael Uslan is Executive Producer. Bruce Timm (Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: Red Son) and Sam Register are Executive Producers. #ign #batman

This looks and feels like it's going to be a wild ride, especially since Bruce Timm is on board. For anyone who has seen his Phantom Stranger featurette that was included with Batman: Death in the Family, then you can tell that he wanted to do more with stuff in this time period. Don't get me wrong either as I see that as GOOD thing.

At this point, I felt it was LONG overdue for me to share all of the trailers/reveals for the newest additions into Mortal Kombat 11 Aftermath as of it's current Kombat Pass: Rain, Rambo (guest-star), and the highly requested addition from fans since this game was announced, Mileena. Ed Boon sure loves trolling his fanbase as he went on record saying that she would NEVER appear in this game and low and behold, here she is in all of her razor-toothed glory. I'm VERY tempted to pick this up on Black Friday since it's going to be about $25-30 from various retailers if I'm looking at the sales correctly. Besides, MK11's story seems interesting enough and this version is including everything right out of the box.

This is one comic book that I never had the pleasure of reading in my youth, but I have always heard good things about it. Glad to see that this is getting an animated (adult) adaptation for more people can experience it for the first time, much like myself.

PREVIEW -- Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot - A New Power Awakens Part 2

Frieza returns with his army to attack Earth. It is up to Goku, Vegeta and the rest of the warriors to stop them. But are they strong enough to take on Golden Frieza?

DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT A New Power Awakens Part 2 releases on November 17th.

As much as I miss Linda Young's Frieza voice from when I grew up with some of the original English dubs of Dragon Ball Z in the States, I have to admit that Daman Mills has been killing it as of late with his performance in Dragon Ball Super and these various video games. He's definitely becoming my favorite Frieza voice to date.

That being said, but did I miss something but when did the Ginyu Force and Frieza's forces from Namek (Zarbon, Cui, Dodoria, etc.) get revived for this story arc? That must be something exclusive just for this game as an extra as I don't remember seeing them in the Resurrection F' movie.

PREVIEW -- No More Heroes III + NMH 1 & NMH 2: Desperate Struggle – Nintendo Direct

Get a first look at some No More Heroes III gameplay before the game launches in 2021. And wait…for real? The first two No More Heroes games are AVAILABLE NOW on Nintendo Switch!

No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle: https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail...

While I'm glad to see both original No More Heroes games are available for the Nintendo Switch for newcomers won't have to find a Wii to experience those games for the first time, I'm disgusted at the pricing for them. Well, $19.99 each for them is fine if you have never experienced these games before, but I thought they would be going for at least $10 each until I saw how much they are going for online from scalpers. Seriously, it's asinine to see both NMH titles going for over $100 now individually. Makes me glad I hung onto my copy of the original No More Heroes but mad that I never got my copy of NMH2 that I loaned to a friend back.

As for the gameplay shown for this so far, this is EXACTLY what I wanted to see. This game is still over-the-top, bloody awesome as I remember, but with a visual upgrade for the occasion on current generation hardware. I'm glad to see the change against intergalactic "superheroes" instead of the laundry list of assassins like the previous two games. Because c'mon... the UAA should be out of capable top tier assassins after Travis' past two outings.

The critically-acclaimed Devil May Cry 5 is back and better than ever in the series’ most Stylish and most action-packed entry yet.

I've raved about this enough already. You know the deal. Vergil is back and playable in this version of the game with a ton of new tweaks to the game's performance on next-gen consoles. Current-gen console owners shouldn't fret though as Capcom said that this Vergil exclusive content will be made available as DLC for owners of the original version of the game for $4.99 in mid-December.

Chronicles of a Fed-Head: Hanging Up The Boots

I don't know why, but two months after I closed my e-federation for roughly a decade, Ground Zero Wrestling Association (GZWA), I feel compelled to tell why I decided to walk away from the game of e-fedding.

For those in the know, I'm not going to lie and blame this on others, this was my biggest mistake in a laundry list of mistakes of being a fed-head. And here I thought it wasn't going to get any worse than some of the stupid shit I did starting out or throughout my run of handling (or rather mishandling) ZXWWF. If you want the 411 on that story, it's in the archives of the Chronicles of a Fed-Head label on this blog. There's no need to retread familiar territory on this entry.

I'll go in-depth on my time of running GZWA during it's ups and downs at a MUCH later date, but for now, I'm just going to focus on the why's of why I decided to hang up the boots so to speak.

As many of you know, my decision to leave came after my costly mistake to allow James Ceno into my e-federation.

I had worked with him in the past on a collaboration storyline, grooming the newcomer Ariel Summer to being a wrestler studying and training under our characters at the time. Ariel Summer flaked out on us, despite all of the work we put into writing character development pieces and helping the handler out with content to use for their roleplays, only to reveal themselvs as resident troublemaker that I'm sure everyone has heard of in their e-fed travels one way or another - Travis Blake/Taryn Willow/Natasha Rose. The guy handles so many characters that I'm sure you know who he is since he gets around. Long story short, the guy had stabbed me in the back in the past and I didn't want anything to do with him, especially after he catfished to get back into my comfort zone and earn my trust under false pretenses. So yeah, Ceno and I had bonded briefly over working together in that collaboration and our mutual disgust with having our free time wasted.

A short time after that, the e-fed that Ceno was part of, Carnage Wrestling, would blacklist him out of the company along with the community as a whole for forcing a sexual assault/rape storyline onto his peers. After the altercation with Travis, I honestly didn't have any interactions with him before this point. I just know that he flat out stopped talking to me after that point. To this day, I have never read the subject manner in question, nor have I heard the full scope of the incident. Carnage Wrestling was wise to wash their hands of the situation entirely and remove him out of the equation.

In retrospect, I should have done the same thing. Instead, he pops up out of the blue on Twitter under a different account around the start of May 2020. He's upfront with me (as per someone's humble suggestion who will remain unnamed) and tells me who he is and doesn't try to lie to earn my trust like Travis did. That resonated with me. "Maybe he's learned his lesson?" I thought. I didn't just allow him to join my fed in one fell swoop. No, I expressed to my members if it was going to be a problem then they had the floor to speak up about it without any repercussions. Only ONE person spoke up and they got blocked by James Ceno on Twitter as a result. That should have raised a red flag for me right there, but I let the snake into my e-fed home anyway.

At the time, I was running the first G1 Climax of its kind in a way for GZWA. I was having problems managing it from top to bottom. People kept dropping out of it since it was on a weekly schedule instead of our normal twice a month booking schedule. My former World champion had to drop out due to personal reasons and I was left with a gaping hole in terms of writers on that bracket/block. So of course I recklessly accepted Ceno into my e-fed to fill that gap since I knew he could write roleplays from collaborating with him in the past. I got caught up in this delusional idea in my head that GZWA will be home to his redemption story of sorts, both in-character and out-of-character for his previous misdeeds. That's EXACTLY where I fucked up royally.

I'm getting a little ahead of myself but I should rewind the clock back to October 2019. That was the month where my grandmother died. I hope I don't get any slack for using that image above, but the quote is exactly what reminded me of her. She was a very religious and spiritual person and instilled those teachings onto her eight children and her grandchildren. There's not a single day that I don't think about her old nay-sayings and home remedies. I still miss her very much, but at that stage of pancreatic cancer, I'm just glad she's not in pain anymore, especially right now during this global pandemic. It would've been too much for her right now.

I brought her up because the week of her demise, I had results to work on for GZWA that I ended up postponing until the 20th after the news of her demise. During that week and the one that followed with her funeral right around the corner, it was the first time I seriously thought about why the hell am I still putting up with this game? If it wasn't for the Divinity Unlimited side project/collaboration that I had started the year prior, I was sure at that point that I would have kicked this hobby/habit to the curb a year or two prior. It’s funny too because almost every single time I brought that I was considering leaving the game for good, people rarely took me seriously.

I made a lot of friends through Divinity and reunited with other handlers/writers/roleplayers that I thought were lost in the ether for years prior. In that regard, it was a breath of fresh air. I know that a "talent management agency" wasn't an original idea, but I took pride in the fact that I brought so many roleplayers/handlers together who didn't have the opportunity to work together and/or collaborate otherwise. I never had the intention of recruiting people for a single e-fed, even though I should have - even though I know that competitive/promo-based roleplaying that GZWA was run under wasn't everyone's cup of tea at this point of the game in 2020. You mention that nowadays online and it sounds like you said Lord Voldemort in a Harry Potter novel/film as if it's that taboo. I get it though. Angled feds and micro feds are much less stressful and more rewarding for those people who rather map their entire feuds out in one go instead of leaving their fates up to booking and/or judging for winners.

At the time, I was struggling to transition GZWA from being a traditional roleplay-based e-fed to being a hybrid between angled and roleplay-based. In retrospect, I felt that the move was a colossal failure. We were leaning more on the old scheme of things from show to show and I hold myself responsible for not enforcing the new rules more because I was genuinely scared of driving off the few reliable and consistent members I had at the time - at least the ones who committed to participating to regular deadlines and contributing to the results regularly.

As you can see, it's becoming a pattern. I have been failing to realize on multiple fronts that I have been failing to put out the best ideas and executing them as well as they should have been. I was doing nothing but frustrating myself more and more. Whether it was trying to decide what direction to take my own characters, such as pitching a World title feud with the newly crowned champion to put her over to setup a potential descent down into darkness for my mainstay character, Mariah, or trying to come up with a feud that was worth Seras Collins' time and effort after she agreed to coming into my e-fed to potentially continue what we started in Hybrid Wrestling the year prior. I honestly felt like I was wasting Seras' handler's time as I couldn't cook up not a single idea to get the ball rolling. This was already after I shat the bed on booking Aphrodite Noel's tenure in my e-fed for the first few months. In retrospect, I clearly didn't know what I was doing. I should have walked away from this game ages ago. In my stubbornness, I didn't want to quit. I didn't want to give up. If I gave up, then I would be a quitter and everything that I have done with this e-fed and my contributions to this game as a whole would have been all for nothing. I wouldn't be the fighter like my grandmother was in her final months. I thought if I just kept powering through all of these shortcomings and mishaps, that everything would be alright. I thought that if I could keep drowning myself into my work, all of this bad stuff would stop happening. That was childish for me to think that, especially once the global pandemic AKA COVID-19 consumed our entire way of life.

It was here when I got the crazy ass idea to run my own G1 Climax for GZWA. That would end up being one of the last nails in my coffin so to speak. Traditionally, I had GZWA booked for shows usually once or twice a month as my schedule would allow. It was pretty laid back and my members liked it for the most part. This tournament threw a monkey wrench into that as it required the competitors in the tournament on a weekly commitment. I ran it in alternating weeks with the two blocks on alternating weeks, thinking that would ease it up a bit on those who were committed to participating. It quickly devolved into a clusterfuck as people got confused on when the deadlines were, what week was their match, and so on, so there were a ton of no-shows and/or late submissions if any in terms of participation. I was losing my patience and growing frustrated by the weeks that went on since I was writing those shows every week primarily on my own.

Bless my staff members' hearts, but I wasn't dropping my workload in their laps. Angel and Sam offered to help me write shows, but I rather do it myself since I knew where people were going with most storylines and it tended to be more work for me to change stuff that didn't gel with the rest of what I had already written on my end. That isn't a knack against their talents, just more factors to contribute to my own growing Pygmalion Syndrome (Google it) at this stage of being a fed-head. I was cranking these shows out only to immediately start on the next without giving myself a break nor a breather. That only contributed even more to the unnecessary pressure I was putting on myself to make each set of results better than the last until I started lashing out at my members for no showing/lack of participation in the tournament that they signed up for. I brought this problem onto myself and it all came crashing down like a ton of bricks. My members' own personal dilemmas and problems caused a few to drop out of the tournament while others were unable to contribute at all for weeks at a time from issues stemming from lack of internet access, family matters like my own, etc. It became a clusterfuck to micro-manage, even though I tried, especially for the few people who were cranking out excellent roleplays for each "night" of the tournament blocks. Once again, I only have myself to blame for this. My own members warned me of this massive undertaking running a unique tournament like this would only burn me out and it did just that - all because I was too stubborn to ask for help and wanting to do everything myself. Bobbi Jackson's handler (GZWA's reigning World Champion at the time) implored me to take a break and I didn't, thinking that if I would only get to the point where I finally had time away from normal job (FYI my job never sent us home for COVID-19 and pegged us "essential" workers for coming into work, despite working for a college campus. I'll never understand that shit to this day, but obviously, it's a manner well above my pay grade to understand...) for a week or two that I could just sit back and detox a bit from this game and let my sanity breathe a bit. At that point, that's where I was like two more weeks and it's all gravy on this vacation, but that's where we come back to James Ceno.

Like I mentioned before, I pegged him as a quick band-aid to fill in for a departure to the tournament of one of our former champions dropping out of the tournament due to his own ongoing health issues. I was convinced that I could offer Ceno this spot in the tournament and it would be his shot at redemption. Call me an optimist, call me naive, or just call me stupid, but I can't help to look for the best in people, especially after all that's happened in 2020. What happened next was when things took a turn for the worst. On the morning of June 25th, I woke up at 5AM like I normally do for work and glanced at my laptop. I sleep with it next to me on one of those stands next to my bed for I don't have to worry about knocking it to the floor in my sleep. I open up Tweetdeck and I see that there's a ton of notifications on the GZWA account. I'm skimming around and got back to the source where the victim of Ceno's foul play was publicly expressing her disgust with the situation that he was in my e-fed. I want to clear the air about this right now - I have absolutely nothing against this victim. That's what she was a victim to his actions in the same vein of the ongoing #SpeakingOut allegations in professional wrestling right now. To this day, I still don't even know the full scope of the situation. Regardless of that fact, her vocal expression of her feelings and trauma that she experienced in light of that situation are justified a thousand-fold. Like I said though, I skimmed what she had to say and offered a quick reply and made my one hour commute to work like I normally do every morning. By the time I got to work and logged back in at my desk in my work office, the whole situation had spiraled out of control. One of my staff members, Sam, is always trying to go above and beyond to get with members and bring out their best with his in-character interviews. Naturally, he was doing the same for Ceno as he offered that platform in-character. I didn't know that Ceno was going to take light of that situation with the victim and glamorize it into a character development angle. That was as jarring to me as it came to anyone else. Sam didn't know the scope of what he did. It was my fault for not informing him in detail of Ceno's past. At that point, I knew Ceno's victim was absolutely right about me and my e-fed, I was a fucking enabler to Ceno's malignant behavior. There were no excuses and no exceptions to that fact. I take full responsibility for that costly mistake. No one in my e-fed is to blame for that but me.

It scared me too as I thought back to the incident where I was running a storyline where Mariah was slowly losing her sanity about a decade ago. She was cutting herself in promos (something I had history with in my mid-twenties at the height of my depression) as her sanity slipped away. I stopped that angle cold turkey when someone messaged me privately that it was too hard for them to read as part of the storyline as it was triggering their own PTSD or a similar situation where they were cutting themselves with suicidal tendencies. The handler feared having a relapse and of course I stopped that part of the angle. I bring that up now as it gave me a hollow realization. My actions were doing the same thing to the victim of Ceno's actions. As long as he was in my e-fed and I was enabling him with a platform, I was merely causing this woman more and more pain, no matter what good intentions I may have had. I was mortified when I came to this realization. I didn't fucking belong nor deserved to be in charge of my e-fed or any for that matter if my actions and decisions were hurting people. That was never my intent in this game. I'm sorry to that woman that it took me that long to realize this costly mistake until it was far too late.

I could have simply removed him from my e-fed and moved on, business as usual, but in my head, I had tainted the trust of my members and the community as a whole, especially when I started reading the comments all over Twitter. GZWA wasn't going to survive nor bounce back from that. I thought about it long and hard as I sat in a meeting at work that morning. It was fuck up after fuck up after fuck up after fuck up with no end in sight. The only solution I had was to load the bullet into the chamber and put the bitch (in this case, GZWA) to rest - for good like Ole Yeller. And that's exactly what I did.

I know people within GZWA weren't happy to hear that decision, but I was done - mentally and physically. I can't fuck up anymore if I'm not part of the game anymore. As much as I hated seeing the many talented people in my e-fed go without an e-fed home, I wasn't going to have them be dragged through the mud for my own stupidity and carelessness. I'm sure there's a certain sect of the community that gets their rocks off every time that they see that they've driven off someone from the world of e-fedding to quit from their gang mentality and poor attempts at “cancel culture” in this game. For the record, I quit on my own accord because I was mentally spent on this game. No one didn't "run me out of the game" - I did that on my own volition.

For those wondering, I'm not giving up on people and I'm not giving up on seeing the best in people either. My only regret from all of this is not listening to people sooner before everything came to a boil. Well, that and how many snakes I had surrounded myself with and how quickly those so-called "friends" disappear once shit hits the fan. In that regard, I only have myself to blame, really. I'm naturally an introvert and I'm not overly social to begin with but I completely withdrew into myself over the last few months before the end. After I pulled the plug on GZWA, I completely stepped away. I haven't looked at the GZWA and my other e-fedding accounts (save for Divinity and Mariah's for the few people who I keep in touch with) since this event transpired. I didn't want to talk about it. I just wanted to walk away from all of this and just see what my life would be like without e-fedding in it and if people would still give a damn about me as a person without me being a fed-head. I still don't have all of the answers to those questions, but it's a day by day endeavor.

There’s the people who completely distanced themselves away from me and those that completely went ghost the second I shut the e-fed down. That was to be expected to be quite honest. I haven’t been the best at dealing with that myself if I’m perfectly honest. There’s people to this day - roughly 4-5 months after the fact - that I’m still leery about speaking to out of fear or potential backlash. I’m not going to lie about that. I distanced myself from the game altogether when this decision blew up in my face. I left roughly every e-fed related Discord server I was a part of and pretty much took almost all of my e-fed related accounts off of my Tweetdeck layout. Hell, there were people who barely spoke to me as it was when I was a fed-head out of obligation, so I knew that they weren’t going to speak to me after the fact. Of course, there’s still the random thirsty DMs and follows that I would get out of the blue from other handlers (DTF accounts mostly) that would try to pitch hooking up with one of my characters and that never died down even after I left this game (laughs). Seriously though, I’m flattered that people still even care to even contact me in that regard. The thing that hurts the most though are the folks who completely cut all ties with me, despite knowing me as an individual and my character throughout my e-fed tenure. I get it though - I fucked up and they had to wipe the dog shit off of their shoes and discard it away from any association.

On a positive note, I’ve moved on. I started writing and illustrating my superhero narrative that I never had the time to invest on fully as long as I was investing 95% of my free time planning and writing for e-feds and I’m really excited about the results thus far. The few people who wanted to keep in touch with me have kept in touch across social media and really opened my eyes on how much they care about me outside of this game, especially when I took that fact for granted before all of this went down. From what I hear from others still in the e-fed game, most of my old GZWA roster members and collaborators outside of it are doing well for themselves too. Life moves on. E-fedding moves on - with or without me and that’s absolutely 1000% okay.

The whole experience was a learning lesson for me and an eye-opener in more ways than one. I’m sorry to those that were affected by my poor decision-making and those friendships and/or relationships that were ruined as a result of it. I only hope that things are in a better place now for all involved.

Shoutouts & Special Thanks:

Sam: It's not your fault. Don't kick yourself for this.

Arkia: Thanks for being there for me during all of this and supporting me throughout my ups and downs in my personal/private life. Definitely my e-fed mom. I call you "Momma Mia Kia" for a reason :P

Serena: I'm sorry that we never got to get your return going into full swing when you were completely motivated and excited to get the ball rolling again, only for me to shut the whole thing down. Despite that, thank you for putting up with all of those days and nights of me rambling and ranting about e-fedding and wrestling as a whole. You'll always be the lil sis I never had.

Dani/Brooklyn: Thanks for putting up with my crazy behind throughout all of this. Don’t worry we still have many more stories to write about Xion and Brooklyn’s family before it’s all said and done.

Amanda Cortez: Definitely one of my longest friends in this game (along with Mel/Angel, Raven, and Amber from Caws.ws and ZXWWF) and thank you for your endless support from the beginning of this crazy ride to the end. I'm still blown away that you decided to hang it up in the game once I did too.

Bobbi Jackson: It was an absolute honor to have you as GZWA's final champion. Keep doing great things in this game, you have a much better head on your shoulders than I do for all of this.

Randy, G, Roxi, Esyel, Valkyrie, Syreena, Juliana, Jenny, Kylie, and so many more that I still keep in touch with on Discord and social media regularly: Thank you for showing me that our friendships aren't limited to the realm of e-fedding.

Everyone still a part of Divinity Unlimited: Thank you for sticking by my side and not letting my idea/concept die with my departure to the game. Many thanks to Roxi taking the reins for me.

AEW Full Gear (Nov. 7, 2020) -- Results & Afterthoughts

Full Gear (2020) was a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by All Elite Wrestling (AEW). It took place on November 7, 2020 at Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida. It was the second event in the Full Gear chronology.

Nine matches were contested at the event, including one on The Buy In pre-show. In the main event, Jon Moxley defeated Eddie Kingston in a "I quit" match to retain the AEW World Championship. In other prominent matches, The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) defeated FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship, Darby Allin defeated Cody Rhodes to win the AEW TNT Championship, and Kenny Omega defeated "Hangman" Adam Page in the AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament final match.

Singles Match for the NWA World Women's Championship
Serena Deeb (c) def. Allysin Kay by submission

Not a bad opener, almost thought that they weren't going to give the ladies time to get this in. Not a bad match to start things off with, but it felt like Kay and Deeb's styles weren't clicking at various points of the match. Deeb retains though and that's all what matters right?

Thunder Rosa stares down with Serena Deeb post-match. I saw a lot of reporters and podcasters that were quick to shoot down those rumors/reports about Rosa taking time off to train for her next MMA fight and I wouldn't be so quick to rule that out. She's still got two more fights left on her current MMA contract, but who says that she doesn't want to get this quick rematch out of the way before she starts training for said fight? Deeb could then have more bragging rights if she does retain but leave the door open for Rosa to come back with renewed vigor after the MMA bout. Look at how AEW promoted the hell out of Jake Hager's battle scars from his recent MMA victory on Dynamite. I'm sure NWA would love to get that kind of exposure for Thunder Rosa after her next fight. For those that aren't aware, NWA did an EXCELLENT video package chronicling Thunder Rosa's training up to her first fight. That would be great stuff on Dynamite if they keep this working relationship with NWA alive.

As for Allisyn Kay, she announced that she was a free agent and appears on this PPV in less than the span of a week. I think it's safe to assume that this was a tryout of sorts for AEW. They could use more seasoned women like Kay on their roster, especially those who are TV ready. I wouldn't see any harm in bringing her in full-time.

AEW World Championship Eliminator Tournament final match
Winner receives a future AEW World Championship match.
Kenny Omega def. "Hangman" Adam Page

The Cleaner came out to play tonight and was all business. At the end of the day though, it was another losing effort for Page in another big match opportunity. I will say this much - Adam Page did have Omega's number in terms of scouting his signatures, but when it was all said and done, he still fell victim to the One Winged Angel. Page ALMOST didn't get his head tucked down in time before he hit the canvas. That was scary to watch. Other than that, I was shocked to see them start off this show. I thought this was a great match to start off with right out of the gate.

I don't shit on Kenny Omega as much as a lot of other wrestling critics do, but at the same time, I don't dick-ride him like Dave Meltzer and his followers do. I respect the guy's work from his tenure in New Japan, but Omega has diluted himself over the past year to bring himself down to the rest of the roster's level. One year later and the only thing that selflessness has done is lower his own stock. This was one of those rare occasions where Kenny Omega should have been selfless in terms of protecting his own star power and market value, especially being one of the last highly sought after free agents after leaving New Japan. We saw glimpses of his former glory here in terms of his performance. I hope people would quit sleeping on Adam Page too as he's got a lot of potential to be a top draw for this company too if he would distance himself from the BTE boys and establish his own identity - not one as the loner (read: pathetic and cowardly as how he's been portrayed for the last few months) drunk/alcoholic either.

IMPACT Wrestling EVP Don Callis joined this match on commentary too. Could we see a working relationship between AEW and IMPACT? That would be interesting for sure.

Singles Match
Orange Cassidy def. John Silver

That Spinning Release Torture Rack should've been Silver's finish IMHO. I did get a good laugh at Silver ripping off Cassidy's pockets and acting like he was eating them. This match was pretty much what we've all come to expect out of an Orange Cassidy match. He got his silly shit in then got serious with his high spots. IMO this gimmick has ran its course. That being said, I didn't agree with the finish. If Silver is as over among the BTE crowd as people claim he is, then they should've given him a win here against Cassidy. Orange Cassidy can afford a loss with the Best Friends' laundry list of enemies on that roster running interference.

Silver's more impressive than I would've given him credit for as part of that awful Dark Order faction/gimmick though.

Singles Match for the AEW TNT Championship
Darby Allin def. Cody Rhodes (c) (with Arn Anderson)

I love this filter for the Darby/Cody package. Cody is in color while Darby's in black/white. Yes during the introductions they called him Cody RHODES.

This match was essentially the same as the last few Cody versus Darby matches but the finishing sequence was rather odd. It was even stranger that they wouldn't even show a replay either so I'm guessing a ref botch calling it prematurely. The narrative for this match had Cody working Darby's arm so he couldn't use it but the funny thing about that is that I was laughing that has nothing to do with how effective the Coffin Drop is. You could cut off both of his arms and Darby could hit that thing to the same amount of effectiveness. That being said, Darby didn't even beat Cody with the Coffin Drop, but with a goddamn roll-up instead. I thought it was pretty fucked up that the kid couldn't even get the win against Cody clean for the title.

Team Taz attacks both men post-match, but Will Hobbs saves Darby from getting his arm smashed into a car door. I'll say this much though... If they are staying the course on turning Cody Rhodes heel, then they are definitely milking this for the perfect opportunity.

Team Taz left Darby Allin for dead after that beatdown. Didn't even give him a chance to soak in that title win.

After it was all said and done, I was just glad that Darby FINALLY got his win against Cody one year later, but the finish here seemed a little anti-climatic. I hope that's not the end of this story because where else is Cody going to go? He can't challenge for the World Championship and of course he's going to want his rematch. They gave him his rematch against Brodie Lee so fast when he came back calling for that, so I wouldn't be surprised if Cody ends up being the first three time Television Champion in 2021. At this stage, Cody Rhodes doesn't need that championship. It should be reserved for the young lions on that roster looking to rise to the next level.

Singles Match for the AEW Women's World Championship
Hikaru Shida (c) def. Nyla Rose (with Vickie Guerrero)

Shida hurt her knee early on after Nyla blocked her signature Running Knee so that played into the match - but not much as Shida was pulling off power move after power move using her base/grounded strength to toss Nyla around back to back across this match. I swear I get pissed every time Nyla does that diving knee drop off the top rope to a rope hung opponent and people kick out of that shit. That should be her fucking finish.

I'm sure that I've mentioned it before but Shida's facials during these matches range from comical to downright awful. She looks like she's taking a shit more than she's in any pain from anything that her opponent is doing to her.

Shida hit about 3-4 knees to Nyla in the end to retain, regardless of her "ailing" knee. I got a kick out of the fact that she's still rocking that Final Fantasy VII Remake Tifa cosplay ring gear. I was like "Gurl, it's time to give that shit a rest already."

New gear? That looks like the same shit she's wearing EVERY goddamn week to me. Someone should have tagged that image with the caption, "WRONG HOLE!" to describe her facials at points in this match. I found myself laughing hysterically at her facials more than being caught up in any sense of "drama" or potential danger that she was in.

It seems like Nyla and Vickie are falling out post-match. If so, that's stupid when AEW barely gave them screen time after pairing them up. You know's bad when even Tony Khan had to address these criticisms during the post-show conference call. I know I'm not complaining about how well they have been promoting and working with NWA to showcase their NWA Women's Champion on their programming, but damn, it's making the AEW Women's Championship look like a complete afterthought.

Tag Team Match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship
The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) def. FTR (Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) (c)
  • Had The Young Bucks lost, they would have never challenged for the AEW World Tag Team Championship again.
  • Tully Blanchard was barred from ringside.

It was your typical high profile tag team match in AEW - or rather in mainstream wrestling. I know most people will attempt to credit the Young Bucks having great match psychology during the opening portion of this match, but I hate to burst those bubbles, but let's see that from the Bucks when they aren't in the ring with FTR leading the direction of the match early on. To their credit, they took things slow and slowly built towards a crescendo, or rather multiple crescendos, as this match had a ton of peaks and valleys. There were a ton of excellent spots/sequences that would make for great finishes, but here they are transition spots or near-falls. FTR went on and on about "no flips just fists" for years now, but that proved to be their downfall at the end of the day. One of them went for the Bucks' Springboard 450 Splash, missed and ate a Super Kick from the ailing ankle of Matt Jackson for the win. Great action here, but I felt AEW shit the bed on the build completely and gave the finish away with that stipulation which was completely unnecessary.

The match itself lived up to the hype, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's any truth to these reports going about FTR's frustrations in this company. To say that AEW has so many high-profile tag team signed, but the only ones at the top of the mountain are the Young Bucks, FTR, and the Best Friends, tells you right there that these people don't know what the hell that they are doing booking wise. It blows my mind week-to-week trying to make sense why some of these tag teams are barely featured (if at all PERIOD) on Dynamite or have been regulated to performing on AEW Dark exclusively. Out of all of the tag teams that this company have signed, not mention the crapfest that was the build to this match, you're telling me that we couldn't have had a simply awesome build to this dream match? Instead, we got the Bucks acting like prima donna dicks (yet they are the babyfaces going into this match), whining and complaining week to week, only to press an injury (not a shoot either as apparently one of the Bucks has been dealing with it for quite some time now) to gain sympathy. What kind of ass-backwards booking is this? FTR barely got any mic time to promote this thing in the least. I know they aren't the best talkers from their WWE days, but they should have been given screen time to get something out there to drive the point home of this dream match. FTR left WWE to make this dream match a reality. For crying out loud, is it too much to ask for a coherent, spectacular build for this match?

I said it before and I'll say it again on here. I wish FTR did NOT come to this company. In my own selfishness, I wanted to see FTR do a run in the NWA before the global pandemic hit everything like a ton of bricks. Hell, I still have FTR versus The North over in IMPACT Wrestling  on my wishlist too.

The Elite Deletion Match
Matt Hardy def. Sammy Guevara

Matt goes FULL Broken Hardy for this again. It was pretty much typically what you can expect from these Broken Universe matches if you've seen them in IMPACT. Craziness at the Hardy Compound with cameos galore, including Gangrel (WTF) and The Hurricane/Shane Helms. Santana & Ortiz and Private Party join in at some point too. There was even a cameo from Queen Rebecca and Senor Benjamin in the end.

I'm sure that I wasn't the only one to notice that Matt Hardy was really taking it easy in this match in terms of bumps. Even the spear out of the ring and through to the two tables during the finish looked like it was shot from multiple cuts spliced together to hide that they used a crash pad for safety. I thought it was in a little bit of bad taste to parody the near-fatal bump Matt Hardy took onto the concrete floor of the last PPV with Sammy Guevara taking it instead with a puddle of (clearly artificial) blood pooled behind his head.

Out of all of the Broken Universe cinematic matches, I can't necessary say that this was my favorite one, but I can't say that this was the worst one either. My favorite one is still Tag Team Apocalypto back in IMPACT Wrestling while WWE drastically dropped the ball with this thing with the "Woken" Matt Hardy stuff. What hurt this "match" the most though is the fact that we have seen MULTIPLE cinematic matches throughout this year during this pandemic era of mainstream professional wrestling and it's not special anymore when Matt Hardy originally cooked up this concept.

Singles Match
MJF (with Wardlow) def. Chris Jericho
Since MJF won, he and Wardlow are allowed to join The Inner Circle.

This was easily the worst thing on the card all night - for me at least. It wasn't because of the match quality - it was the fact that this match just seemed to drag on aimlessly until the finish. At this point in the show, we're closing in on midnight on a Saturday night on nearly FIVE hours on a goddamn PPV (including the Buy In preshow). Even WWE aren't clocking shows this long anymore. I get it though, AEW only does 4 PPVs a year and they are trying to give their fans their money's worth at $49.99, but still, you're asking a LOT of people on a Saturday night.

This was your run of the mill Jericho match in AEW, but MJF pulled a trick out of the late Eddie Guerrero's playbook to fool Ref Aubrey into thinking Jericho used the baseball bat (Floyd) to roll him up for the win. Meh at that finish. I couldn't care less either way as I don't see a benefit from MJF being part of the Inner Circle or not. Please point to me any benefit that anyone NOT named Chris Jericho has had in that group over the past year.

MJF was on fire in his feud with Moxley and now he's down to doing show-toons with Jericho. Sure, a win over Jericho is impressive on his resume but does it really mean much when Jericho already lost to Orange Cassidy SEVERAL times over the past few months?

"I quit" Match for the AEW World Championship
Jon Moxley (c) defeated Eddie Kingston

Moxley's post-WWE matches have only stood out to me when he was over in New Japan with a roster of workers who can compliment that hard-hitting brawler style that he's shooting for. This isn't a knock against American wrestlers in general, but most people stateside aren't going to work that style and it's a bad look to even try to when you obviously can't. Moxley himself isn't even necessarily great at it, hence why he masks his shortcomings with the assortment of hardcore stupidity that he sprinkles into almost all of these matches.

Shout out to Eddie Kingston rocking the Misawa colors during this title match and congratulations to him headlining his first PPV main event for a major wrestling promotion. Let's hope that this isn't the first and only time we see him in this position.

While I love that Eddie Kingston is getting this career resurgence of sorts here in AEW as a lot of people are seeing him for the first time on big platform. I thought he was great on the mic in IMPACT Wrestling - despite the fact that we've had a few choice words for each other on Twitter in the past for some of my criticisms back then. I thought he was a shout out talker on NWA Powerrr last year as well. He's always had the gift of gab; there's no doubting that. I'm just happy that he's got the attention of a lot more people - inside and outside of AEW.

That being said though, he's a lot like Moxley, where his in-ring style isn't for everyone - me included.
Moxley and Kingston were brawling at first but this match quickly devolved into a hardcore match like almost ALL of these Moxley matches have turned into. Not really a knock, but it's getting very redundant at this point. Like I said before, I wasn't really a big fan of Moxley matches when he was in WWE as Dean Ambrose and I still not too fond of him in this company either. They did have some interesting hardcore spots, including some rubbing alcohol after a bump into the thumbtacks. That was VERY creative there, even though I wouldn't be surprised if that was mere water in that bottle instead of rubbing alcohol, especially if they have to use that same ring again Wednesday night for Dynamite. Then again... Moxley and Kingston are so crazy, gangsta, or whatever you want to call it, that they really did use actual 90% proof rubbing alcohol. Seriously, how much does that go for nowadays during this pandemic?

The ending saw Moxley wrap his arm in barbwire and put on a seated choke on Kingston. Kingston did NOT say I QUIT, but the referee called it anyway to name Moxley the winner. Very strange finish to me.

I was told on Twitter after the fact that Kingston did mutter the words to quit, just the cameras didn't catch the audio. I thought they would have had the referee with a microphone on his outfit that would have at least caught that, but oh well. I guess Kingston won't have another excuse to explain his shortcoming this time.

Walking away from this match, I don't understand why so many people were shocked that Kingston didn't put Moxley away. I wasn't in the least. Kingston ended up being the replacement for Lance Archer, who was pegged to get a rematch against Moxley at this PPV before coming in contact with someone who had COVID-19, so he was pulled off the shows that were building to this PPV. This caused Tony Khan to pull an audible with Kingston in his place. All of that being said, I didn't think that they weren't going to take the title off of Moxley before we get the rubber match between Moxley and Kenny Omega.

Speaking of which, Kenny Omega came out afterwards to stare down with Moxley to close the show and tease the match for the title next. I'm all for this as long as it's not another deathmatch like the last match between them was last year.

Afterthoughts:

This was a solid show from start to finish. This show definitely made up for the debacle that was All Out roughly two months ago. More importantly, I'm glad no one got hurt this time around either.

NXT: Halloween Havoc (Oct. 28, 2020) -- Results & Afterthoughts

NXT: Halloween Havoc was a special episode of WWE's weekly television series NXT, broadcast on the USA Network. It took place on October 28, 2020 at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

Five matches were contested during the event. In the main event, Io Shirai defeated Candice LeRae in a Tables, Ladders and Scares match to retain the NXT Women's Championship. In other prominent matches, Dexter Lumis defeated Cameron Grimes in a Haunted House of Terror match and Johnny Gargano defeated Damian Priest to win the NXT North American Championship in a Devil's Playground Match in the opening bout.

Devil's Playground Match for the NXT North American Championship
Johnny Gargano def. Damian Priest (c)

Gargano defeating Priest with a ledge dive/drop bump that reminded me of something straight out of Lucha Underground. The majority of that match did absolutely nothing for me. I didn't think that they should have beaten Priest this early for the belt, especially not for Gargano's stupid heel gimmick.

After the opening match, Pat McAfee took to the ring with the new NXT Tag Team Champions, Danny Birch and Oney Lorcan, to shoot on the "internet wrestling fans" and the Undisputed Era as any good heel would and should do. This was a piece of good business. I just wasn't a fan of how much time this took. Even Ray Charles saw Pete Dunne's turn on Kyle O'Reilly. Like why the fuck would he align with the Undisputed Era when those guys have been at odds for years now? Not to mention, Roderick Strong was the one who turned on him during the Dusty Tag Team Classic about three agos to put this faction together Overall, I'm not really sold on this mash-up of guys aligned with McAfee. I need a few more weeks to see what they are going to do with them collectively before I'm buying into it completely. So far it just comes across as lumping guys together for the excuse to put UE in WarGames for like 3rd or 4th year in a row. I've seriously lost count at this point.

Singles Match
Santos Escobar def. Jake Atlas

Santos Escobar def. Tony Atlas. As much as I loved Escobar in Lucha Underground as King Cuerno and I like Tony Atlas as a ring talent too, NXT has done nothing to make me care about anyone who faces Escobar's stable. That's just an easy cue to go to the bathroom or the kitchen to make a sandwich in this case - not that this lasted very long anyway.

Legado del Fantasma dressed for the occasion.

That being said, I did like Escobar's Mysterio Halloween Havok-inspired gear though.

Haunted House of Terror match
Dexter Lumis def. Cameron Grimes by submission

While the "zombies" in the House of Horrors match looked cool with the contortionists, I want them to scrap this whole pseudo/wannabe Undertaker/pseudo Sam Shaw character for Dexter Lumis. It's just not working - AT ALL. Ironic that they have the two ex-TNA/IMPACT Wrestling guys involved in a match like this too...

Why did they feel like this needed to be split into two parts though? It just made this match feel like it overstayed it's welcome big time. I guess they might have wanted to get all of their investment on those extras they hired to play the zombies in the haunted house. (Shrugs) Who knows? I have to wonder where the hell

Singles Match
Rhea Ripley def. Raquel González

Rhea Ripley def. Raquel Gonzales in another match that didn't do much for me. Giant vs. Giant matches or Powerhouse vs. Powerhouse matches can be really boring when both people aren't going to bump around like the people lighter than them normally would. It just makes for a lot of bland and stale action. I honestly found myself flipping the channel back and forth to the NWA Women's title match over on AEW over this instead. I had to laugh after Rhea won too as even in victory, this match did nothing for everyone involved.

I remember having to do a double take at first as I thought Shotzi was completely nude here, but quickly realized she was rocking a Bride of Frankenstein get-up for her first costume (of many) during this broadcast.

I will mention that while I thought Shotzi's costumes were cool, I still was disappointed that she didn't rock an Elvira look for one of her multiple costume changes for the night.

Tables, Ladders and Scares match for the NXT Women's Championship
Io Shirai (c) def. Candice LeRae

After the opener, I didn't have any high hopes for the main event between Io and Candice since I was half-expecting Io to drop the title to her for Candice and Gargano to have bragging rights next week. I was surprised to see Poppy (lipsync) sing Io to the ring to what sounded like a garbled mess instead of Io's normal music. The match wasn't really good nor was it god-awful, but I'm surprised that Candice doesn't have a crushed pelvis from how she landed on ladder during the finish. (Sighs) Lemme walk that comment back a bit... I felt the same way about this match as Candice and Io's TakeOver match less than a month ago. Both women gave their all, but I don't have any enthusiasm of seeing Io losing to Candice in any shape nor form in a one-on-one match. If this was a multi-person match, then go nuts with the title change, but just all kinds of no on Candice beating Io clean.

Reports following this show said that Hartwell wasn't the one under the mask, but was taken off the show tonight as a precaution due to COVID concerns.

I would bet the farm that the person in the hood/Scream mask is going to be revealed as Indi Hartwell though.  I was happy to see Shotzi run interference for we would be spared from the gloating from the Garganos next week too.

Afterthoughts:

This wasn't a bad show, but at the same time, I wouldn't say that it blew me away either.
I was just glad that they didn't go with the predictable route of making both of the Garganos win their matches here, even though I'm still not too keen on the idea of having Damien Priest lose the North American title to Gargano so soon after winning it. Gargano doesn't need to be a champion to be successful on NXT, but Candice LaRae could use a NXT Women's title win to pad her resume before going up to the main roster. The problem with that is that I wouldn't have Io Shirai losing to her PERIOD, even if there was heel foul play involved with the finish. I heard that there's some talk about the individual wearing the Scream mask tonight being not just one person but two individuals aligned with the Garganos. I could see that being a possibility as well. Austin Theory has been suffering a string of losses on NXT over the last few months before uttering the words that he "quit" not too long ago. Gargano could have taken him under his wing, much like how Candice may have coaxed Indi Hartwell into doing her bidding. Don't forget that Indi handed Candice a pair of brass knuckles a few weeks ago to set up this match, so there's that possibility as well.

The impromptu creation of Pat McAfee's faction seems to be reaching at the moment, but I'm willing to give them a few weeks to iron out the kinks out on this idea before I give a final verdict on whether I have warmed up to the concept or not. I can't say the same for anything involving Legado del Fantasma though. They have great matches, but I just don't care for them as characters on this show. Double goes for roughly everyone they have been feuding with over the last few months. I really want that to change, especially with Jordan Devlin returning to NXT UK. Hopefully, we'll get to see Escobar Santos and Jordan Devlin clash to see who is the REAL NXT Cruiserweight Champion in the coming months, sooner more than later.
