The first thing that I'm seeing as I'm watching the gameplay play out in this trailer is essentially WWE All-Stars at it's core. I'm seeing partials and fractured pieces of the distinct fighting styles from that game on display here. The only difference being with this game is that it's "chibi" models of recognizable WWE Superstars and Legends instead of roided out, comic book over-exaggerations for said personalities that people heavily criticized that game for going with in terms of the visual style.
I'm glad to see that women will be well represented here as I spotted Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Ronda Rousey, and Asuka in this trailer in the mix of the action. I like to think that they borrowed a few elements from the defunct Def Jam series too with the weapons and "powered up" state I saw at the end of the trailer. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if those developers were picked up by 2K after floating around in limbo for so long.
For 2K's sake, I hope this is worth the investment, especially how things panned out for them with WWE 2K20 last year. September 18 seems like FAR too soon to be releasing a new wrestling IP when they never got on good graces with players after their last debacle.
