I have said it since the original Overwatch launched that I absolutely adore their character designs, especially their passion to express diversity too that doesn't come off forced in the least. Blizzard has all of these wonderful characters, filled to the brim with emotion, only to be shackled to a game that ENTIRELY tied to PvP FPS gameplay. All of the interest I had investing in the original game went out of the window. It was the same crap that bogged the original Titanfall down. Of course, you're going to have the people who say but there's the Overwatch Animated Shorts and lore scattered throughout the maps in PvP modes. Fuck that noise. If you got time to do all of these elaborate backstories for these characters then I want some sort of a Story Mode this game. All of these characters demand it, despite how much personality they show off during matches. I'm not going to knock that the game became a global PvP phenomenon without any sort of a single player story component, but I just felt Blizzard alienated themselves in a sense when they decided to go the same route as Team Fortress 2 of making a team-based shooter with no story component. As much money (and still do) Blizzard makes off this game and the merchandise, I have to think that they left money on the table when they decided not to have a story mode for this game. Look at Tumblr or DeviantArt for Overwatch content and you'll find a wealth of people crafting their own fan-made lore and art for the game - when it's not fucking porn involving every character under the sun for this game... Speaking of that, there's more adult-oriented art for this game than any of the Pandora's Boxes you would open by Googling Sonic the Hedgehog, My Little Pony, or Ben 10 on any search engine without a mature content filter toggled on.
Seeing a trailer like this just reinforces the fact that this game would benefit from a story mode to flesh these characters out even further. They got me to care more about these characters in the span of 8-9 minutes than I have out of the entirety of the time the initial game was out in this series. This was just an excellent trailer from start to finish.
Remember what I was saying a minute ago about Overwatch needing a story mode? I wish you guys could see how fast my jaw dropped when I saw that was one of the first things announced for this sequel. Okay, Blizzard, you got my interest for sure now. Doubt that I'm going to go out of my way to buy this like so many people I know who play this regularly to this day, but I would love to see the story mode for this play out. Even if I merely just Redbox the game a few times, I would be down for those co-op story missions just to play as all of the different characters Overwatch brings to the table with their different personalities at play.
